for a long time now i havent been able to switch the channel to 16 (foxtel-chnl V). mainly because the station has turned from 'this track is should be played' to ' how does my face look on tv?'

its disgusting, im really dissapointed.

also, the current music scene and what is being released.
it is dying , thats all i can say. there seems to be a lack of appreciation for the making of music. the music being released doesnt seem to have any hint of a creative process whatsoever.
its just all pop, pop and more pop, even the 'metal' that is being released is totally influenced by image. image.... image.....image.
seems today that this is all we think about, how good we look.

im so frustrated... i need to vent my anger, so this is how im doing it.
i wish i was this age (18) like 6 years ago.
so many decent releases and artists, tool, soundgarden, jeff buckley, nin, nirvana, pink floyd, king crimson, tracy chapman and many others. that was a time where they all had new releases.
i have only recently turned to electronic music, because i cant find any music i enjoy listening to. im thankful for it too.
i look on tv now and in record stations, its bombarded with ego driven popstars and puppets.
when will there be change, when will poeple start waking up and start focusing on the creative side of music. really think about making good music. to be driven by the creative fever and not money and fame. when will the sickness end.

ahh enough blabbering, tho this is a subject im really passionate about.
anyone else feel the same way i do?:X :(

yep, it makes me sick too. it really pisses me off when dj sammy and scooter get into the top40 while the real talent goes unnoticed. it makes me sick. i just don't understand how the shittest music of a genre is so popular. its the same as RnB, hip hop and rock. the cheesiest songs of the genre repeatedly get into the top40 while the real talent is pretty much unheard of.
i cant see it changing for a long time since the 14 year old girls keep on buying the latest britney spears and ja rule single. its so fucking sad!! whenever i drive around in my car (im a trance freak) ppl complain about my 'doof doof' music and say there is no talent involved in producing a song while they listen to their ja rule. just because its popular doesn't make it good.
it seems the top 40 isnt based on music talent at all, more like what is 'cool' at the time. its really disgusting.

^^ like he said its where your looking. i only listen to triple j, and believe me there is so many good tunes coming out at the moment. my advice is turn off the image driven music shows and turn on some good radio.. then go and see who you like live!

desensitized, you are exaclty right man, what i am trying to say is that the current music scene is deteariating, i didnt say the music is dying, i said the music scene is dying. what u said about going to independant records stores and such, i already do that, this is what i have been doing for a while.
and i preach tools attitude and stance towards media apperance's and image.
i feel a subtle sense of pride when tell poeple who my fav band are tool.
tho when i look at mainstream coverage of music....
these 'artists' are being wrongfully credited.

so please dont misunderstand me poeple..:(

Without evil there can not be good

Without pop music there can not be good music....

I say bring it on, keeps the masses diverted ;)

yer i try to keep to my cd's, or if in my car, i listen to the beatles.

i hate people who like scooter. yer its hell hardcore!!!

pop music will always be pop music, and always has been pop music.

and most of the time it is shit created only to make money and create hysteria amongst young screaming impressionable girls.

of course some good music makes it into the top 40, and even sometimes dominates it- thats to be expected if something is that good that it appeals to all kinds of people
(ie ones who listen to music for music and those who listen to whatever cheese the pop generator machines feed them)
..but don't think that crap music in the charts and playlists is something new.. do u remember danny minogue in the early 90's? eh? eh?!

You've also got to look at it from the music industry perspective.

Unfortunately, modern day pop music is excessively based on the visual element. The artist's image, the single's video clip, all of these contribute greatly to the success of the artist. Also, with the continued piracy of music via mp3, record companies are pushing DVD Audio and Music DVD's harder than ever, with these now becoming a veritable cash cow (since music apparently has to be visual)...

You'll get more music from uninspired attractive people on the airwaves and in the marketplace than you ever will from the most talented people in the world with aesthetic defects. :\

In resonse to the original post, i don't quite agree with you. Mainly because i've thought the top40 and related tv shows were always crap. In other words, no, its not getting worse, its always been bad. Last night I happened to watch V for a while. It was some whack rapper, but hey, the ladies were so hot, i wasn't complaining :D Look at the bright side...

tune in to maybe 88.9 fm (in sydney). late night they often have good mixes, either live or recorded.

ATM it seems that ppl are heaps into RnB, which I can't listen to. But i don't usually pay ppl out about it. I just accept that some ppl have noi taste =D

there's nothing wrong with a bit of top 40 shit. i love this generations music, it may be a too comercial and globalised but can you seriously think of one thing wrong with graig david or dj sammys crazy ass trance mixes. fox fm and nova always seem to play the banging shit that always ends up a bit too loud on my car stereo.

if you don't like it don't listen too it, but there are people who do like it so don't be so ignorant. how would you like if people said your tunes of choice are shit...just let it be and do what you wanna do

same and i agree...I don't know about the tracks people are talking about in this thread because i don't listen to the radio at all so i am not even aware of what songs are out at the moment except for what i hear when i go shopping etc

but what i do hear i have to say...its pretty crap :p thats the only way i can desrible it *shrugs*

If I'm missing out on some goods songs here and there (and maybe it's better than it was) then so be it if it means not hearing all the adds and other commercilised popstars that are there because they know someone in the buisness/are too beautiful not to me on tv/are selling other shit while singing cos of who is proting them/telling you how to think/encouaging all sorts of ideas to teens of today.........fuck i could go on but ...

The only station i like to hear (occasionally) is triple j

We were listening to that for the first time in months the other day and my son came in and actually said "Mum this is boring....can we put psy back on?"

=D I was so proud

^^ What a little champion! =D

here here, thats comforting stuff doofqeen.
yeah i cant listen to normal radio, so i tune into 2scr.
the only station without the rambling commercial bullshit......:X :D

Unfortunately commercial ramblings = $$$$

2ser is a prime example of a radio station breaking out of what is now classified as the norm, and through this give students and people with interest in radio a chance to be part of something. It has to be remembered however that 2ser is a community radio station run through the University of Technology in Sydney and therefore is government funded. Therefore, it cannot be controlled if they decide to cut funding which is something that has been on the cards for quite a while. If funding is cut, it is possible that you will also find commercial ramblings on 2ser in order for them to keep their doors open.

money makes the world go round, and unfortunately therefore certain entertainment that is disliked by a certain some will be projected into the public face through tv and radio.

peace

xxx

^^ 2ser plays hip hop like once a week... every other day its about hippies rambling on about recycling paper with regular breaks for Hindu music.

To be perfectly honest id find more satisfaction listening to the morning crew.:p

supply and demand 8)

The thing with commercially marketed music is that the big labels have the ability to create the market with advertising on mainstream media. The best example of this is the whole "Postars" thing. A bunch of people with average talent given training, marketing, songwriters, image consultants, coreographers blah blah blah and BANG! instant no.1 just add water. And the converse that a good "product" will create a demand of its own. Also on most music video programs the "Hit Prediction", WTF? Who the hell could possibly let themselves be told whats going to be popular and therefore I should run out and buy the next fad pop music. Rant over.
