Megathread Cultural Appropriation and Cancel Culture Discussion

Seriously tho, I have no issue with how people choose to live their lives , it’s when they start bringing children into the mix where I draw the line…Iv seen gay couples that have adopted children which I’m totally cool with, a good loving home is a good loving home, but Iv also seen them try to push their ideologies on the kid like a vegan parent pushes vegsnism on their kid, shits not cool to me

All parents push their ideologies on their kids to some extent, it's unavoidable, but some do it in a decidedly negative way. Religion is the biggest example, most parents raise their kids to be religious. I was lucky that my mom, who is religious, made us go to church every week and be involved in the church (choice, social stuff, etc). But when I was a teenager she told me that it was up to me and she wasn't going to try to enforce us to stuck with it, she just wanted to expose us at a young age and she hoped we would stick with it but respected if we didn't. But for a lot of families, it is unacceptable to them if their child diverges.

I just don't care about any of it. If I think you are a guy and address you as such and you don't like it, tell me and I will call you whatever you want. In all reality this is a workplace thing. No one outside the workplace really gives a shit about all this woke shit. People are at their core a bunch of bigoted; if not racist, self centered, egotistical, self righteous fucks who band together in like kinds. Rich live with rich, poor live with poor, blacks, whites, Chinese, Hispanics and on and on all have their own neighbourhoods.
We all need to chill and accept our similarities instead of being so quick to point out the differences. Live together and give a shit. Teach your kids critical thinking and expose them to everything and let them decide what to listen to, read, watch, converse about. Be a guiding light to others instead of a sinking ship.

I honestly have a real problem calling a man a woman. The counter argument has always been: what harm does it do? But, honestly, I don't know the answer to that question long-term. What social harm occurs when we start calling people whatever they want to be called. My hunch is: a whole fucking lot of harm.

If I said to you I wanted to be called "Duchess Dorothy, Queen of the Penguins", I don't think you would do it?

Why should we call people whatever they want? Should we bend reality in other ways, too? If fat people want to be called skinny, is that the same thing? What if assholes want to be called saints.

I don't see how it is in any way beneficial to lie to people simply because they want to be lied to.

Let's call Asian people African American because they request it?

None of it makes any sense to me.

(I am well aware these are not popular opinions.)

I feel like the skinny/fat argument is not the best example, as it doesn't take into account the difference between biological sex (ie xx or xy or whatever) and gender, which is a social expression. I get that it is much more common for people to live publicly expressing a gender that is not their sex, but transvestites and transgendered people have been around society for ages. The only difference is they don't have as much pressure to hide it now.

I also don't see how it causes harm like telling somebody they are fat that they are skinny. Being fat is deleterious to one's health, and can be addressed by lifestyle changes. Allowing somebody to delude themselves on that prevents them from acting to better themselves. Being called a different gender (or even Duchess Dorothy, Queen of the Penguins) is not going to prevent a person from achieving health/happieness.

Maybe i am having a hard time seeing your argument, could you answer the converse for me?

How does keeping somebody who wants to live as a different gender to live in accordance with their sex benefit that individual?
