Could past MDMA/Stim abuse be the reason im not responding to the SNRI Effexor ?

Hi all,

Iv been on 75mg of the SNRI Effexor for atypical depression for about 7 weeks. It's had a mild improvement on my morning dysphoria but besides that i didn't notice any significant improvement. My overall mood was unaffected until i was prescribed Modafinil for fatigue 2 weeks ago. The Modafinil is actually helping with my depression tho ! It lifts my mood and gives me focus/motivation while Effexor does nothing..

My question is this, could my lack of reaction to Effexor be due to my past overuse/abuse of MDMA ?

Might i have damaged my serotonin receptors ?

Is the Modafinil working because it targets my dopamine system (i never abused dopermaganic drugs)

And lastly, if the above is true might i benefit more from an anti depressant that targets dopamine ?

Answers would be greatly appreciated

Effexor might not be right for you. Also, though, 75mg is the standard starting dose. You may need to increase the dose a bit before you notice a positive impact.

You should discuss your options with your prescribing doctor.

While it's possible, the thing with psych drugs is that they all work differently for everyone.

If this is the first drug you've tried, I wouldn't jump straight to past drug use playing much of a role. Just talk to the doc, decide if the dosage needs to be upped or if a different drug should be tried.

Psych drugs are a lot of trial and error, really.

The reason is probably that Effexor and all the SSRIs are garbage worthy drugs. Their biggest effects are increased suicide risk and emotional blunting. Plus, they block the action of MDMA. What's to like?
