Hey

I smoke poppers and have for a while now. I smoke out of a bong (hoss) and have been smoking weed for over 5 years. Just recently, i have been coughing like mad after a hit. I cough so much that I can't stop and last night bloody phlegm came out. How do I avoid this? My bong was just recently cleaned. Could it be serious? I was thinking the blood was caused by all my coughing. I dont want this to keep happening !! :(

Thanks!

Chronic coughing can very much cause bleeding from blood vessels rupturing due to the strain of repetitive coughing, and the absence of mucus during a dry a cough.

Been there from smoking weed.

You DO realize you're inhaling a pyrolyzed solvent?

I'd see a pulmonologist.

Whenever my lungs hurt from smoking my bong, I switch to my vape for a week and the problem goes away :) A break might be your best bet.

Wait, are you smoking poppers as in amyl nitrite? If so I'd stop doing it immediately as it doesn't seem healthy.

True. At the very least I'd go see a GP as there could be a chance of contracting an infection that would greatly worsen what is likely not too serious a problem yet.

Coughing up small amounts of blood isn't so incredibly uncommon, but the only time I ever did I had pneumonia and went for a chest x-ray to make sure I didn't have lung cancer....

What the hell does that shit break down to? Man, that can't be good for you.

I really freaked out when this happened to a friend as well but it's actually pretty common for the blood to be from the throat in such circumstances rather than the lungs themselves. The main concern would be preventing any infection from occuring that could then spread to the lungs.

Just to clarify for others, she is not smoking amyl nitrate, she is smoking bowls of tobacco and cannabis.
I used to smoke like bowls like that for about 4 years off and on, and they were incredibly addicting but the negative health impacts were too much for me. I never got to the point of coughing out blood but I found myself becoming short of breath easily with uncomfortable pressure near the bottom of my ribs, feeling physically exhausted all the time, and fairly concerned with my long-term health. I've quit over 3 months ago, I still smoke a little bit of cannabis but I cough up a good amount of tar from my lungs each morning in the shower, more than I smoke each day.
I would suggest returning to smoking only cannabis, the tobacco isn't doing you any good. See a doctor as well, it's better to be safe than sorry.
