who wears contact lenses? If so, what do you think about them, and what do you recommend. (soft or disposable lenses)

What do you see as the pro's and con's of contacts. And would you rather wear glasses or contacts?

%)

I wear contacts and I have had them for about 9 years now :D I LOVE them! I always hated wearing glasses, and thought they made me look ugly, but I have very very very HORRIBLE vision (I swear I'm almost legally blind 8o) so I had no choice. I started wearing glasses at age 10 but my mom made me wait til I was 13 to get contacts.

I have 2 week disposable lenses. I tend to use them longer than 2 weeks though :\ which is usually ok.. just as long as you don't go several MONTHS on the same pair. Trust me, I learned that the hard way :\

When I started wearing contacts... I didn't get a new pair of glasses for years despite the fact that my prescription had drastically changed overtime. But in January of this year, I got a new pair of glasses with the correct prescription, and that I actually think I look decent in :) I wear them out occassionally, and quite often at home. Its nice to give my eyes a break even though the contacts really don't bother me very much. When I get home from work (especially if its a long shift) the first thing I do is take out my contacts and put on my glasses.

I can't think of any disadvantages to them, unless some people are sensitive to them and therefore can't wear them. And I know some people don't like to touch their eyes... though personally it doesn't bother me at all :)

thank you. I just got them today. They feel....weird, like I have a piece of dirt in my eye. But I am sure I'll get used to them. They seem easy to get in and out.

I can see what you mean about taking them off when you get home, my eyes are already feeling dry.

Thanks for all the help SLG. you're a good mod!

i've been wearing contact lenses for 19 years. i've always had soft lenses and i now wear disposables. never had a problem.

i also have glasses and i switch between them depending on what i'm doing to give my eyes a rest. there are somethings i always wear lenses for: snowboarding; swimming; going to the cinema; etc.

i've been wearing contacts for about 8 years. it does take a little while to get used to them. i wore glasses all the time since i was 3, so i was thrilled to have an alternative, and the awkwardness at the beginning was worth not wearing glasses all the time.

i have the kind of contact that last about 1 year. i wear them everyday and wash them about once a month in an enzyme solution.

i'm so happy that contacts exist... so much better than glasses, in my opinion, but i am sure i'll get that laser eye surgery at some point down the road. can you imagine being about to see without contacts or glasses? wow.

awwww thanks :D

yes, it will take some getting used to. when i first got contacts, i would put them in "inside out" quite often. and that is serverly irritating! but with practice comes comfort!

i'd suggest keeping eyedrops handy, as you may need them. always make sure to wash your hands before putting in or taking out your contacts. i will admit i am somewhat lazy about that but it IS important!

hahaha the very first thing I did was put the left one on inside out! The guy told me that if I did it, I would know very quickly.

I put it in and my eye closed and started watering bad lol it felt like someone was poking me in the eye......so as he said.....I found out quickly lol

I needed eyedrops today (but I didn't have them) my eyes felt dry all day and when I got home today and took them out they were bloodshot. Someone pulled out a bottle of Clear Eyes today and told me I looked like I needed it. haha

I guess he has me building a tolerance to wearing them. He told me to wear them 8 hours the first day.....then 10, 12, 14. I think he said 14 would be the max I should wear them. Which is ok since I take them out when i get home.

I have noticed that my vision with glasses is different than my vision with contacts. (it seems better with glasses). I guess it's something you get used to.

yeah xena, I'm legally blind and have been wearing glasses since about 10 years old. So it would be insane to be able to see perfectly without glasses or contacts! Hopefully one day I can get the procedure done. :)

Make sure that if you use drops, you are using rewetting drops, not standard eye drops. They do different things, and you're just needing the moisture, not the redness removal part!

I've had contacts for about 11 years, and it didn't take too long to fall in love with them. At first I had the long-term ones that last about a year, but I had to switch to disposable due to my eye making too much protein or some shit. Anyway, I still take them out every night because it just seems better for my eyes to rest them w/out the contacts. The vision difference between glasses and contacts shouldn't be too great, and is probably just a matter of getting used to them. I LOVED the fact that I gained all that peripheral vision, and that I could wear normal sunglasses and didn't get spots on my glasses when it rained or when I was in the pool. That definitely rocks :D

remember when your putting them in your eye to wait for the "clicking sound(s)", you'll know what i mean when it happens, after it happens blink however many times it takes for your vision to become clear (in other words after your contact centers itself on your eye).

i like getting the 2 week soft disposable lenses, i use a multipurpose cleaner which i just fill my case with the cleaner and drop the lenses in every night, and before putting them in and after taking them out i rinse both sides with the solution. I spend $38 for 12 contacts (acuvue 2), and $12 on the multipurpose solution per 12 contacts. (i get a free bottle too every time i order them)

i think i overuse the solution, but i'm paranoid about eye damage. i like them over glasses, it will always be slightly bothersome to me to have to put in cold contacts in my eyes and get them to stay and center every day, because sometimes they will just not want to "stick" and keep falling out but that usually means they are too wet. but i still prefer them over glasses. it seems like a sharper vision than glasses, and of course you have corrected peripheral vision too.

BTW does anyone have vision worse than -3.00 (myopia)?
I'm thinking I need a slightly lower prescription, because when playing games on my computer it seems to throw my depth perception off unless i sit way back from the monitor.

mine is like -4.8 in the right and -5.3 in the left

or the other way around.

You're not supposed to look at stuff up close with glasses or contacts in if you are near sighted. I think it messes up your eyes.

I used to do that when I read books, and now I can barely read a book without my glasses on, I have to pull it really close to my face and then its somewhat blury still.

I had contacts for about 8 years and now I wear glasses. The contacts were too much of a pain for me. I couldn't just crash on the couch and pass out, i had to get up and and take the contacts out before bed, which was a pain because it woke me up more than i wanted to be. If my eyes get tired I just take the glasses off, not so easy w/ contacts.

I have really light, low-profile glasses and I barely notice I have them on. I've even hopped in the shower w/ em on once! I don't think i'll be going back to contacts anytime soon, besides, i kinda like the distinguished look they give me :)

hahahaha I just turned 18! ( I don't know how old you are...but I think you have to be atleast 18 to be a mod....I'd say you're in your early 20's maybe?)

so just give me a year or two....I am just getting started.

I feel sorry for you, I have trouble seeing my feet without my glasses, and when I look at someone I see a blur of hair and the outline of a nose....I can only imagine what you are seeing. :(

but I'm sure we can both agree on one thing....bad vision sucks!

blind power! :)

^ lol. For the record, I'm 22 :)

My vision has gotten progressively worse with every year. Except I think that for the last 2 years it has stayed the same. It really can't get any worse!!! Without glasses or contacts, all I see is everything extremely blurry. I can't even walk downstairs without either glasses or contacts because I'm likely to fall down the stairs or run into walls :\ Seriously. Everyone in my family has bad vision, but mine is the worst by far. I also have astigmatism in my left eye. Technically I should wear special contacts for the astigmatism, however my eye doctor said that I'd be ok with regular contacts. And I feel I am. The special lenses are much more expensive (if memory serves).

I can however see things very close up, even without my glasses or contacts. Like if I am lying in bed reading a book, I can see it just fine, as long as I hold it fairly close to my eyes. But even then sometimes I squint :\

DAMNNNNNNNN man!!!! wow, I didn't even know it was possible to be that blind!

my vision was like that, but thankfully it has slowed down and has been the same for the past two years.

oh btw...today my lenses went perfectly. I found out exactly how they work and how to position them in my eyes to where they don't feel like dirt in my eye. I'm happy :)

Lol...i'm like 5.something and 4.something, which sucks b/c I have to buy different boxes for each eye. They have changed a bit in the past few years though (gotten better) which the doctor said is quite common.

I know we throw the term 'legally blind' around a lot (i do as well) but technically I think it's only considered that if the vision can't be corrected at that. So, someone is 5.50 but that's the BEST they can be.

Most people I know would have long been dead in the days before glasses!

^i personally have issues with the whole legally blind bit. my mother is genuinely legally blind: she has no sight in one eye and her other eye's vision is not correctable. she carries a magnifying glass just so she can do things like read brands and prices at the grocery store. she has never been able to drive and has never truly been able to look at her husband, children, etc like others can look at them.

shs has uveitis, which is an inflammatory eye disease. she gets the best treatment (cole eye center at the cleveland clinic) but will NEVER be able to see perfectly... not with glasses, contacts, or surgery.

she has a genuine disability but is contantly questioned. "cant you just get glasses?" etc etc etc...

i take this personally because i AM her eyes. i read her everything. i drive her everywhere. i help her with everything involving color. if she drops something, i find it. (this also all applies to my sister and my father as well.)

i mean... i know it must suck to have bad vision but at least you can correct it. at least you have the options to use glasses or contacts or get lasik. at least you can wake up and put your glasses on...

quit complaining!!!! feel lucky you have those awesome options!
