Hey there!

I have a bit of a Concern for one of my friends that smokes marijuana. Perhaps you could help me?

A bit of background information on my friend. He is 21 and from Zimbabwae he has been in Canada for 5 years. Just recently we were smoking Weed and he had the strangest reaction.

At first everything was normal we were talking about life and laughing having a good time. And then he started rubbing his hands together and he just zoned out. He started slowly moving his head back and forth scanning the room but he would not respond to myself or my roommate. We tried clapping infront of his eyes...nothing. Even his natural reactions didnt do anything. My friend tipped the chair and he just stayed there not reacting.

He snapped out of it and said "Dont worry about it im fine" but he seemed a little dazed. He went outside for air then came back in seeming normal. I went upstairs to use the washroom and then heard a big CRASH. I went downstairs and he was sitting on the couch rubbing his head. My roommate told me he was sitting on the chair and then randomly got up and ran into the wall.

At this point we got a little nervous. My friend started seeming scared and he asked my roommate and I if we could go upstairs, he had a look of terror in his eyes. At this point we spent a good hour upstairs, he would just be silent and occasionally ask us to stand beside him or infront of him and occasionally ask us for a group hug. My friend later drove him home and appearently everything went okay from then on.

Was he just tripping hard or should we be worried?

Sounds pretty crazy, never seen or heard of that happening before. Possibly a panic attack or anxiety attack maybe?

i can't offer you much help but i have a friend that does some of the same shit. he's bipolar and for awhile he stopped taking his meds, he's back on them now(hopefully). but we would all be cheefing having a good time and he was always quiet but there were a couple times when we would look over at him and he would be crying. it was the strangest thing i had ever seen if anyone asked him what was wrong he would lash out and act like it wasn't happening. and there were a few instances where i thought i saw him talking to himself, granted i was stoned so i could just be tripping.

do you know if your friend has any mental conditions?

Kinda sounds like he greened out. I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much unless it happens again.

yea i've seen some pretty weird shit happen to people who don't usually smoke. i think its just the way they know how to cope with the experience they are in. its unfamiliar and they may have some thoughts that don't usually cross their mind so it can be a very intense experience.

coincidentally the two friends that this has happened to; one was from algeria, and the other from palestine. maybe its something in their genes?

While overdose on weed is nigh impossible, it is possible to have adverse reactions to pot, I actually know someone who is allergic and is heart stopped because he ingested bud, and now must abstain.

If he is game, he could try smoking again in a controlled environment (work out an EMS plan ahead of time) or he should not smoke if he gets "sick" from it.

Weed is smoked in those regions...

yes i know it is. but people from different regions of the world have various genetic differences that can provide for a different reaction to a chemical.

^in support of that theory asians metabolize opiates(i believe may have been benzos i read it awhile ago in my psychology textbook) at different rates than people of other races. although i highly doubt this is the case for weed it is plausible.

When I was about 17 or 18 I ended up losing control of my actions and ended up behaving in a peculiar way, dancing around in inappropriate situations. I think I had some sort of dissaciative episode, so I can relate to the OPs experience. I've since learned how to avoid it happening by moderating my dose.

You never know how someones gonna react especially if they aren't a regular smoker. A couple of my good friends have passed out when we first started smoking (with no help from gravity hits and our 6 ft bong). One of my loyal smoker friends is a nodder simply on weed (and dont get him in the car - we make fun of him by calling him the headbanger, we're just jealous because we cant get to his level).

lol hes just stoned.

paranoya is a very common reaction. he fealt helpless, loney, scared, depressed, ect.

its reallly no big deal at all...its just in his head. hes fine it has happened to many people

iv seen people strait up fall down and black out from smoking weed (some reaction due to blood pressure falling too quickly), and i thought that was a big deal but turned out its not.
