Compost soil - right type chosen?

I need to ask a couple of questions on behalf of my friend who doesn't have a PC ATM.

He has some bags of compost, one soil-based compost meant for seeds/clones and a few soil-based compost bags for adult plants. Both types contain loam and grit sand. Does this latter ingredient mean that no additional grit sand needs to be added?

The compost for adult plants contains added nutrients, although on the bag it does not state what type has been added. Does this mean it cannot be used, since the type might not be right for cannabis plants? Or does it not matter so much, since a fertilizer that is good for cannabis will eventually be added?

The compost for adult plants contains added water-storing crystals for better moisture control. Nevertheless, should perlite still be added to the mixture as is so often recommended?

I would use shrimp compost for your grow needs. I've used it many a time and it contains a lot of necessary nutrients and I would definitely recommend it.

But your soil should be fine, especially if you're adding your own nutrients.

But would my friend need to add extra grit sand if it says on the packet the some has already been added? He's planning on adding perlite to the soil mix so personally I wouldn't have thought that he wouldn't need to.

more perlite always better than no perlite, i'd mix in 20% at least regardless. the bag of the compost that has nutrients added could, i assume, be refering to either an adjusted N-P-K ratio making it optimized for some plants (but maybe not the strain of weed you'll be using) or a proprietary blend of nutrients that adds other elements. chances are it's ok, but if there's any indication on the bag that it has a specialized purpose then i'd try looking for some cleaner soil.
