Compazine for general anxiety?

I got my hands on some compazine 5mg pills? How are they for general anxiety? Tried searching but can't find any real answers...Is it OK for like social anxiety maybe similar to xanax in a way maybe? What are the side effects would it be dangerous for me to take it? I understand it's an anti psychotic and I'm not looking for recreational use either I'm genuine asking for relief for anxiety and a calming effect possibly

You were doomed to fail...

Compazine (Prochlorperazine) is nothing more than a more potent cousin of Thorazine (Chlorpromazine)...

This is going to make you a dud...

It feels nothing like any benzo.

What about if I were to dose some crystal and stayed up a couple days and entered psychosis? Would it take away the effects of psychosis?

Well as prochlorperazine (trade names Stemazine, Stemetil, Compazine, etc) is a typical anti-psychotic that is twice as potent as chlorpromazine (good old Thorazine aka Largactil) yes it would help the psychotic symptoms and it would also help you sleep. As for treating general anxiety doctors used to use typical anti-psychotics such as Thorazine and methotrimeprazine for anxiety and some of them still do but seroquel seems to be the number 1 anti-psychotic for treating anxiety these days. Compazine, Thorazine and methotrimeprazine are all phenothiazine anti-psychotics and are very sedating. I have taken methotrimeprazine for nausea, insomnia and to help with the symptoms of opiate withdrawals and i have also taken Thorazine to help nausea and vomiting caused by the nerve pain i have and it works really well with opiates for this purpose. I have never had compazine in pill form before but i have had injections of it with morphine or Demerol to help acute attacks of trigeminal neuralgia and the vomiting from the pain.

I found Thorazine to be less unpleasant then the atypical anti-psychotics risperidone and seroquel. It feels more like a really strong anti-histamine then anything else even at 100mg's. However these drugs can cause various movement disorders such as EPS so benzos and anti-depressants should be tried first to see if they help your anxiety. As compazine is twice as potent of a anti-psychotic as Thorazine is it might carry a bigger risk of causing Tardive dyskinesia.

Personally i would save them for helping severe nausea or vomiting or a psychotic episode. There are far better and safer drugs to help anxiety.

I wonder if your doc thinks you just need an antipsychotic, cause if not his prescribing practices are a bit odd. It may not be a bad drug, per se, but it's side-effect profile is particularly nasty. Some doctors do sneaky shit like that and think it's okay, when it really isn't.

Doctors prescribe seroquel all the time for anxiety and insomnia despite the warnings about type 2 diabetes because there are some doctors who will not prescribe benzos under any circumstances. Despite the fact that benzos have much less in the way of side effects. I doubt the OP's doctor gave him compazine for anxiety as prochlorperazine is very rarely used in North America anymore for psychiatric purposes. It was used quite abit for schizophrenia as well as mania but now it's mostly used as a anti-emetic

I have a particular dislike of docs who think its ok to palm somebody off with an old school anti-psych for anxiety; mainly just because their classed as having extremely low abuse potential and their cheap as hell.
I dont think they will be alot of use for anxiety (they might calm you abit if you get agitated) but i would put them away for possible future use as an anti-emetic and last-line sleep aid.
Be very careful if you mix it with other downers esp alcohol, the old anti-psychs are notorious for toxic effects and used to be involved in alot of suicides.

You got screwed.

This drug is not intended for the purposes you have been prescribebed them for.

This is highly wrong and very fucked...

I would switch doctors if you can't get him to prescribe the correct meds.

Doctors think that sedation is just sedation and it will rid you of anxiety. But, antipsychotics can irritate you just as much as they calm you, and be too tired to fight it.

In the er they give it for acute migraine. The pharmacist asked how I tolerated it, I only took one then fell asleep with a xanax. He told me most people want to jump out of their skin. I wouldn't take it again unless I had a migraine and a xanax. Jumping out of my skin sounds shitty.
