In my head
Hi,

On the 14th this month I'm going to a center that deals with autism and people who have it. I suspect I'll be asked to take an IQ-test, and obviously I want to be as clear headed as possible when taking the test.

My question is therefore, what can I do to increase my cognitive performance (short term memory, concentration, faster/deeper thinking etc.)? I was thinking vitamins and exercise. What remedies should I consider? I am open for any suggestions except illegal stuff like amphetamine or ritalin, even though they probably would help alot.

To sum up: what would increase my cognitive performance the most within the 9 days deadline? Legal OTC drugs are also welcome as suggestions.

This is a question I am also interested in . I might be going back to school at the age of 42 . Gingko Biloba ?

The point of the test is to gather a baseline for your mental performance, don't attempt to throw it off by taking stimulants. Get rest, excercise, and a good diet if you want, but don't start taking supplements to "help" you for the test.

Quoted for the truth. I was about to respond with pretty much the same answer. If you take supplements for the test then it wont be a true reflection of your cognitive ability and could mess up any thing that is suggested for you after the test.

I would seriously recommend abstaining from drugs and supplements for this test.

Agree with the above but I'm wondering if there are consequences for the OP if the score is too low and thats why the question is being asked ?

If not then a good nights sleep and some light exercise before the test should leave you giving your best and most accurate result which is what is best all round TBH even if there are consequences my advice would still be the same

If you sway your test so it diagenoses you as being autistic when you aren't, or vice versa, you will be kicking yourself down the road when you can't take stimulants 24/7.

It's not a serious test, I'm just asking for vitamins and stuff, not amphetamines or anything like that. Please, I've seen you list things that can help in these kind of situations thousands of times. You always say "get enough calcium, vitamins, gensin... etc."... That's the sort of answer I'm looking for. Please, I'm begging you. Let me handle the moral aspect of this and help me compile a list of things that would help. I'm not talking anything that would make me an absolute genius for some time, just some things that would make me clear headed temporarily... Especially since I'm not very clear headed right now due to my subutex and triazolam. Please focus on what would help instead of why I shouldn't do it. I'm begging you!

Hi d3Xo-fan, this thread doens't feel quite right for BDD - I'm going to try it in Healthy Living I think, see if you get some help there :)

HL mods, sorry if this isn't appropriate!

BDD > HL

Get a good night's sleep, eat a proper diet (good balance of fat (for long term energy)/plant and animal protein (neurotransmitters and enzymes)/carbs (instant energy) - prefering carbs in the morning rather than later in the day), and maybe eat a multivitamin every day. Excercise in moderation and try to get outside. Honestly, there's not really much more to it than that. Being well fed and rested is 80% of the battle (with me at least).

Ideally your diet should provide most of the nutrients you need, before supplementation. A good balance of dairy, red and white meats, vegetables (esp. dark and brightly colored ones) or fruits, and preferably whole grains is a good start. Fresh and local is best. If you don't get outside a lot, or avoid meat/dairy, you can also consider fish oil supplements (even though they stink or come in huge capsules).

Things like ginseng, ginkgo biloba, theanine, taurine, alpha-GPC, lecithin, etc are all usually extraneous if you do things like eat fried/boiled eggs, meat, dairy, and real plant life. If you can afford them, try buying the herb or supplement itself before you get commercial extracts or capsules. If you do see a supplement that has a "natural" source like L-theanine in tea, go for the natural source.

Being tested while on triazolam, or withdrawing from either suboxone or triaz will definitely impact your performance, so I suggest staying on the sub and off the benzos for a little while before your test comes round.

Final important disclaimer: I am not you. Results may vary.

Thank you so much, sekio! Finally a useful answer that doesn't take into account what I said earlier about the cognitive test. I really don't get why people didn't start telling me about healthy living from the beginning, seeing as this is a harm reduction site. There's no way you can infer what kind of test I'm going to take from the few lines I used to descibe it. I could be lying, I could be phrasing it badly, I could be using it as a front to lure tips on healthy living out of ya'll... Obviously I didn't do any of these, but asking for a few vitamins shouldn't yield answers only focusing on how the test won't reflect my performance... What do you care? Is it not more important that I eat vitamins and keep my body and mind healthy? Sekio's last answer should have been the first (and possible only, except for nsauce's) in this thread. And if not for mine, then for nsauce's sake too...

"don't attempt to throw it off by taking stimulants."

I'm sorry, what?! I said vitamins, NOT STIMULANTS!!! I SAID SPECIFICALLY NOT AMPHETAMINES OR RITALIN!!!! Good lord. Your first post ruined my mood for the rest of the day, thanks alot. If you hadn't made it up to me by posting something useful at the end you would end up as the first user on this board ever I actually had something against. Jeez. You ask an innocent question and get 20 replies you absolutely don't want and one that you DO want. Goodness.

And I wont be checking on this thread later on, so don't bother writing a reply telling me how wrong I am and how right you were and blablabla, there'll be no debating from here on. But thanks for your latest reply though.

Sometimes that is how it works on bluelight, be happy that you got a good answer and don't be so angry at the people that were also trying to help but might not have understood exactly what it was that you wanted. I considered moving this to healthy living from the offset but your initial post was too vague and was asking for DRUGS to use to help your cognitive performance.

You might want to adopt a more mature attitude if you intend on sticking around on Bluelight. Don't take the internet so seriously, and definitely do not get massively offended when you are kindly given advice.

We do have a few threads on nootropics... You may want to try using the advanced search and looking around through there.

For example, I just dug up this thread http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/557129-List-of-Brain-Supplements?highlight=nootropic

I'm not super familiar with this subject matter, but a quick search tells me that some common cognitive performance enhancers include B Vitamins, Omega-3, Ginko Biloba, etc.

Hope that at least gets you pointed in a better direction! Good luck.
