are they?
what are there brand names?

Ive only been given lorazepam & valium for general anxiety.
temazepam for sleeping.
xanax for panic attacks

what's k-pins prescribed for?

is 2mg of k-pins stronger than 2mg of xanax? i mean will it lower ya inhinitions more as in make ya stagger around talking to strangers & get amnesia like a high dose of xanax or is it more subtle like valium?

im asking because i barely get effected by benzos. I dont even feel 150mg of valium. I might be getting some xanax soon so hopefully i might get some relaxation out of what would knock most ppl out. SO I wanna go for the one that gets a the most wasted in other words.

i know xanax is stronger than valium & temazepam but is it stronger than k-pins too?

What do you mean you barely get affected by benzos? Alprazolam and Lorazepam and Clonazepam are benzos.
It's called Klonopin here too, so yes, we do have k-pins.
I'll wait for someone more experienced to address your other question(s)

Brands include Rivotril, Paxam, and then whatever generics a pharmacy may carry. I thought alprazolam was stronger, but shorter acting, then clonazepam.

It's prescribed mainly to prevent seizures in epilepsy, though I have seen it prescribed for anxiety and restless legs syndrome (though I believe it's more commonly used for these other indications in the USA). I believe it is only listed to be subsidized on the PBS as an anti-epileptic, which may influence prescribing patterns here.

So no, it is not stronger then alprazolam in my opinion but it is not much weaker and most people would be hard pressed to say which is stronger. It certainly lasts longer. Subjectively, I was never that big a fan for recreational use, but it worked well when I had to taper off benzodiazepines (was coming off alprazolam, actually). Also it tastes minty, which is nice when you are sublingually using it. :)

I must of always gotten a generic brand with clonazepam in bold writing on the bottle, two mg and fairly soft pills.
Love that semi mintie taste.

^ Yeah there will probably be a heap of generics around. I had the 2mg tablets as well.

<3 the minty taste of clonazes. Have you guys ever had some bottles that it was extra extra minty.
Like it literally tasted like mintys.

I'll reiterate what others have said. They're definitely available in Australia. I've gotten pills off a friend. 2mg. 2 scores at right angle on the pill (hence making them able to be split into quarters.) AFAIK, weaker than xanax but not significantly. Closer related to Diazepam than Alprazolam. Xanax is more relaxing if that is what you're looking for. Though after all, everybody reacts differently.

Ive only ever seen it prescribed for seizures in the brand name Rivotril, doctors may choose to prescribe it for anxiety but in the MIMS book it says its only prescribed for seizures in Australia so you may find it hard to get a doctor to prescribe it for anything else.

In terms of effects I find it much more like valium than xanax and for me it causes much less amnesia. I usually need 4mg of xanax or 25mg valium to get the effects I want(doesnt add up I know) but the one time I had clonaz I had 2mg and it relaxed me very nicely. The only benzo ive ever used with any regularity is xanax so im wondering if somehow I could have developed a tolerance to xanax that hasnt affected my tolerance to other benzo's quite as much, though it obviously has raised my tolly to all benzos. I dont know if thats possible but it seems that is what has happened.

^ I think that's definitely true, though when my tolerance got really high all benzodiazepines seemed the same to me apart from length of effects. I was in a real amnesic haze for most of that time though, so take that as you will.

i think clonazapam is prescribed for like insomnia I THINK! i know its in australia,i've been prescribed a whole lot of benzos for sleep anxity and pannic attacks but i have never been prescribed clonazapam i have only ever been able to get some off my molly friend :) lucky fucker always has clonazapam i would say there on par or even more euphoric than xanax mg for mg IMO.i mixed 2.5mg of clonazapam with 2mg of bupe not long ago n almost OD'ed fell asleep on the farkin toilet for a hour hahaaha

also if your not getting off on 150mg of valium maybe its time to taper yourself off and have a break and let your tollorince lower.not tryin to be a wet blanket just saying if you to munch down 30 valiums and not feel a thing maybe its time for a break....i know i cant talk with benzo abuse but i still get off on 40mg of valium throught a night

I've seen it prescribed for anxiety. From memory it took longer to come on than xanax and lasted longer. Its not necessarily better than xanax but heaps better than nothing.

^ as the_ketman said it is indicated for those that suffer from epilepsy and/or seizures, although doc's can prescribe it for off label uses as with most med's. I was on Rivotril 2mg x3 daily when trying to wean off Xanax. It isn't as 'obvious' when it comes to sedation... so for panic disorder it probably isn't the best drug to have prescribed. I found that it kept me calm, with limited obvious sedation or tiredness. As soon as my head hit the pillow though, I'd be out like a light. Have read a lot of others experiencing the same thing. Xanax is a very obvious sedation/calmative whereas even though the two are dose for dose, most people don't notice that they're actually calm on Rivotril (Clonazepam) due to the subtle/non-obvious anxiolytic action.

Hope that makes sense! %)

I've never actually had Clonazepam, but from my experience of talking to ppl on anxiety forums,it's supposed to be as strong as Xanax (I'm on up to 4mg a day of xanax) but it has a much much longer half life than Xanax, which I'm guessing is why it doesn't feel like it packs so much of a punch.I'm guessing it feels like a stronger version of Valium as Valium has an incredibly long half life.

Non recreationally speaking,Xanax are great for panic attacks,as they work fast and you can feel them hit you within 10 mins or so.But the effects wear off within about 4 hours for me,which is why when I take one to get to sleep,I'm usually awake 4 hours later. Also you can get Xanax on PBS,so I can get 100 at a time for <snip> or whatever. You'd probably have to see a psychiatrist to get Clonazepam prescribed off label as it is prescribed in the U.S for anxiety, but only as an anti seizure med here,so expect to pay more and have more difficulty obtaining it.

Umm yeah,so after all that rambling, definitely go for Xanax!!

At the end of the day it really depends on the relationship you have with your GP or other health care provider. In Aus, any GP can give you a script for Clonazepam - and they may even call it through as an authority for it's indicated purpose (even though it may not be). I have known this to be done.

Xanax in Aus is indicated for panic disorder where 'other treatments have failed or rendered an unsatisfactory response' (something like that anyway :) ) Clonaz is dose for dose with Xanax, although works slightly different on the brain and the GABA. People have gotten into crap when they dose on Clonaz - not feel the high that they want so keep taking it.... 10mg later, you've either got a calm zombee walking around, or someone that wants to crash. I have to say Clonaz is a very sneaky sedative, however if there is no panic disorder and possibly generalised anxiety or something similar, then Clonaz (IMO) allows me to be calm, yet focused to get done what I need to do.

It was my psych many years ago that put me on it - though I know a few that have just gotten it from their GP. Not the 2mg dose though - more like 0.5mg. Not sure what the prescribing rules are there but anyway :)

Just as a side note here, since this is a HR site,I got myself quite addicted to Xanax about 8 years ago.Admittedly I was being stupid and using them recreationally as well as for panic, which was dumb.I was taking about 6-8 mg a day and my GP got pissed off when I came in for a refill too early for the third time and cut me off cold turkey, and prescribed me Seroquel to help me sleep.Naturally with the few pills I had left,I had a rapid taper and ended up out of my mind with panic attacks and having mild seizures, and ended up in the ER.Who sent me home with a weeks worth of valium. Not much help!

I tracked down a doctor who specialised in benzo addiction who then put me on a slooow tapering schedule, starting me off on 15 x 5mg Valiums spaced throughout the day.It was often quite amusing seeing the pharmacist do a double take when I handed my prescription in,but as soon as I uttered the words "Xanax addiction tapering" they'd be like "ohhh" and nod understandingly. It took me about 4 or 5 months to get to the point where I could manage with one or two a day as needed.

I'm on Xanax again now and my current psych has no knowledge of any of my drug misuse history,as I know better now,and didn't want my stupidity to get in the way of being prescribed meds that would help me.I just know to be really careful with them now,and know my limits, because there is no way in hell I'm going back to the addiction specialist. So that's just my cautionary tale to play safe with Xanax ;)

5mg xanax? I didnt know they were made at that dose.

0.5?

MissNervosa... lovely post. I am not religious in anyway.... and I take my Xanax daily so I don't black out into a coma..... however, I wish I never touched it. Xanax = Devil. <3

Thanks pharm_friendly :) Neither am I,but yes I agree Xanax does = Devil! I was reminded of that only two days ago when I didn't take even half a mg the day before and woke up with a horrible choking senstion in full panic attack mode, simply because I hadn't taken a maintenaince dose for one day :(

It's Xanax and speed I have a love hate relationship with. When I first tried both of them,I had the sensation of "Ohhh, where have you been all my life? So this is what it's like to feel happy and normal!".However, now I can never un-know that they are out there, waiting to make me feel good, drain my wallet, and potentially fuck up my life again :\

^ I'm really tired so if I can offer this advice only; When it comes to Alprazolam, it has nothing to do with the dose - it's more the frequency. If we had both never taken a benzo in our life, and you took 0.25mg for about two weeks, and I took 2mg three times a day.... the short term and dependency kicks in sooner before you even click... and then the spiral continues.

I really don't like how barbiturates were the cure, then we moved onto benzos (NON ADDICTIVE.... 'Mothers little helper') and after years and years docs are handing out anit's like there's no tomorrow. Garbage!

Tired too,and nodding and agreeing. The sad thing is,I've been given benzos (including Valium,Ativan and Serepax as well as Xanax) by 7 different doctors, and not ONCE was I ever warned about the high addiction potential. Not even once. We're all screwed *rolls eyes*
