Chrome Extension Changed My Homepage

I downloaded a chrome extension while registering for a small business forum. It changed my homepage. It was called email V.1. or something like that. I deleted it and as I did the software writer asked for feedback. I just said, "Maybe your software is legit, but I deleted it because I thought it was malware. You changed my homepage. That seriously sketched me out. Shady fuckers." or something to that effect. I scanned my system with Norton. Nothing found. Should I be concerned about this. Are they watching me still? Thoughts? My homepage is back to normal. Could this be connected to other weird computer behavior I have observed, such as it restarting by itself and this time that my webcam flickered by myself which people on the Norton forum said (possibly erroenously) that it was "checking for updates".

Not that I'm one to give much advice on IT security, obviously (to some here), but browsers get "hijacked" like that easily, all the time. All you have to do is not uncheck a box that says you're interested in something or other at download, and you get a brand new search engine and defaults.

They aren't always easy to scrub completely, its easier to just disable sometimes. I think, and again, keep in mind who you're talking to, mostly only dangerous in that they can load third-party ads that aren't always so innocent. Chrome extensions from their store should be more vetted, I think. But chrome also got better at letting you clean up after those hijackings. You have to do it for every browser you have though.

What makes you think they were 'watching' you as such in the first place, let alone are now?

It was always going to be a shady plugin, and you chose to install it. I'd imagine that if you removed it, that should be enough.

Your computer restarting is probably due to a dodgy PSU/motherboard, your computer overheating (dust/wiring/broken fans), or a loose connection/faulty wire etc.
