I've recently revisited this classic and found it tight from start to finish. A very clever and somewhat disturbing story produced with style and pace which only contribute to a wonderful period tone.

Spoiler: chinatown

Alluded to but never confirmed is what the Noah Cross wanted with his grand daughter/daughter so much. A theory i've heard is that he's trying to create a clone of himself, by having a child with the child he conceived with his daughter. Disturbing shit!

originally meant as a trilogy, this makes me want to see the sequel only, "the two jakes".

I saw The Two Jakes before I saw Chinatown. Both really good flicks- some of Nicholsen's best stuff, imho

you should check out polanski's "MacBeth", it was realeased in the early 70's. very very well made.

i just watched chinatown last night. it was good but not th best i've seen. probably ground breaking for the time but i just dont have enough appreciation. dont get me wrong it was good but mainly because of jack IMO

Just watched it. Have never felt so immersed in a period piece. Will watch again when not so drunk. But it is astonishingly good.

i think this is the film L.A. Confidential really wanted to be. They're different enough, but... man...

bah, who knows what the hell i'm talking about anymore.


Chinatown is great. that's all.

LA Confidential's a good movie, too.

One of the things I liked best about "Chinatown" is the way it pointed up what a dirty business California water is.

Talk about a racket. It's still going on. Mono Lake is drying up because of it.
