Ok I am going to get laughed at for this but oh well. Does anyone else watch and enjoy kid's movies? Tonight we took our daughter to see happy feet. The only kid's movie that I have liked more was Shrek 1&2. It was very funny and very cute. Typically I leave a theater thinking the movie was a waste of 9.00 and two hours. I was very surprised but I really enjoyed it. If you have kids or younger brothers and sisters this is a good movie to take them to. The movie starts out with a song by Prince and then goes into a part of the song called Let's talk about sex, though in the movie they say let's talk about X baby etc. I was shocked it being a kids movie but it throws in some adult humor every now and then.

I think my all time favourite children's film is:

The best Disney film ever! :D

monsters inc. really is a good movie.
i want to see curious geroge but i heard there really is no adult humor thrown in there (like in most films- shrek and so on).
nightmare before christmas was good, too. lemoney snickets was a dark childrens movie, yes? i liked that.

^ i've been trying to look it up... but havent hit the magical words to find it yet...

edit: i got it, it was childhood (if i am thinking of the same thread as you). here is the link
but... the linked thread is about films of our childhood, this one seems to be about current kid films not what we remember about the 80's. so perhaps seperate threads are in order.

i've always loved children's movies. now i'm a pre-k teacher, and so i get all the reviews on the latest movies. apparently i need to see 'happy feet'.

some of my favorites:
-sleeping beauty
-toy story
-finding nemo
-monsters inc
-the little mermaid
-the lion king
-over the hedge
-madagascar

^^^ i've only seen parts of it. my students were watching it one day while i was at lunch so i caught the last few minutes of it. same characters, but i think some of the voices were different. i'm sure it isn't as good as the first one... since that one was really good.

i love kids movies especially the animated ones, all the 3-d type ones they've been coming out with recently.

Ice Age was really good too, and Finding Nemo.

some of the oldschool (2-d) ones too b/c those are what i remember from my childhood. Bambi, 101 Dalmations, Lady & the Tramp, Fox & the Hound, Beauty & the Beast, Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin.

when i was really young i used to watch The Land Before Time every single day. i watch these kind of movies still and i don't even have kids

"Toy Story 2" was very good, but I liked the freshness and slightly darker tone of the original just a little better.

My favorite kids' movies:

"Beauty and the Beast" (By far my favorite Disney flick.)
"The Sword in the Stone" (Love the poignant 'squirrel' scene; those who have seen it know what I'm talking about. ;) )
"Cinderella" (If the stepmother isn't the most evil broad, ever.)
"The Little Mermaid" (Time was I knew most of the songs by heart. That's very gay, I know...)
"The Incredibles". (Blew me away! If this flick doesn't prompt the creation of more semi-serious, *American* 3-D animation, I'm going to be very disappointed.)

Of course, there's "The Wizard of Oz", which is in a category all by itself.

My all-time favorite kid's movie is "Charlotte's Web". It's not every day you see a kid's film that's deeply honest about time and mortality.(Loved the book, as well.)

I would include "Spirited Away", which you HAVE to see if you haven't, but in spite of the characters that movie has a much more adult feel to it to me, IMO.

Don't we already have a huge thread on this?
you've been here for 47 years and 9 months, i am sure you can recall a thread on anything. 8( p.s. you would actually be more help with links.

thanks for it foxxy! i have a quickly maturing 3 yr old. and a 10 year old who is becoming bored with what we like to see him like, so this is a good thread for new ideas.

we have shown our older boy our old faves, such as those in the links that wanderlust linked to.

newer additions would be the obvious box office hits like madagascar, little mermaid, and alladin...which everyone already submitted. i currently sing little mermaid tunes to my older boy as punishment when he doesn't do as he is told, so it is good for more than entertainment :)

my only original suggestion would be rediscovering anime, there is so much magic there to find. that you and the kids would love....

I think you're right on this xena. I absolutely *hate* almost all the characters they introduced in the second Toy Story. The cowgirl was by far the worst. I wish they had just left it with the original cast.

My favorite Children's movies:
- Beauty and the Beast
- The Secret of NIMH
- The Never-Ending Story (1 & 2!)
- The Black Cauldron
- The Little Mermaid
- The Rescuers Down Under

i didn't really like happy feet. dancing penguins get old after awhile :\

didn't you like the music A_C? thats what did it for me. And the fact that my 2 yr old was dancing in the isles lol. I have't seen over the hedge yet or cars but they are both on my list as soon as i get around to it. we did curious george the other night, she loved it but it was just ok for me. she isn't really into disney yet, except lion king, her new favorite.

Amorroark-I love never ending story i think thats my all time favorite movie from when i was a kid.
Darthmom- i havn't tried anime yet any suggestions for kiddie anime? most of what i have seen is more adult.(when I move down we'll have to get together for kiddie movie nights lol)

I completely forgot to mention "An American Tail", which I *loved* growing up. Such a shame that I seem to be the only person in my generation who was enthralled with it. :(

Disney's animated Robin Hood, and The Sword in the Stone --fcuking awesome, I can still recite the songs from Robin hood.
