cesamet

^ See above (it doesn't). Marinol on the other hand is delta-9-THC.<snip> None of the single cannabinoid pharmaceuticals can even compare in efficacy to cannabis in it's natural unadulterated state. Even the way it's administered is inferior - i.e. vaporized cannabis vs oral cannabis particularly for many who suffer from nausea and even pain to a lesser extent. The best mechanism for taking cannabinoids they've achieved is Sativex, which ironically is a whole cannabis plant extract anyway, although again, the way it's administered - sublingual - is far far inferior to vaporization. It's a nice idea, in that sublingual cannabis tinctures will kick in in 10-15 minutes, but it doesn't work very well compared to the real thing.

Sativex sounds pretty boss tbh, wouldn't mind picking that up at the pharmacy with health insurance picking up the tab for most of it.

If only health insurance paid for real MMJ through dispensaries...

well ironically, i am now completely unable to obtain dried cannabis, so this couldn't have come at a better time, however i find what the previous poster said about cesamet possibly being addictive by virtue of being a full agonist concerning, i took first dose at 930 and by 11 i felt relieved, however I am starting to think about redosing, but am hesitant to use more right away, because i think i ought to take it really easy with this stuff, I'd like to stop smoking totally as it isn't cheap for me and at times can be excessive, i might take another cesamet this afternoon as i havnt eaten yet and i would like to, regardless this stuff might be best used only in the evening for sleep ideally, but nothing i plan ever goes according, so il see how it goes but will try to use as little as possible, and what a bitch that i can't restock a dried cannabis supply at the moment.

If this is something perscribed how is it perscribed to take? Once or twice daily? at certain times? As needed?

I would stick to taking it how ever it is prescribed.

Amazingly the cost of one week's supply of Sativex can fund a whole year's worth of the cost of HPS lighting.

I find it funny the way GW pharmaceuticals try to claim that Sativex doesn't get you high, even though in the literature that comes with it they describe symptoms such as 'euphoric mood'.

The main problem with Sativex is that it is designed to be taken sublingually.

In the words of Dr. Lester Grinspoon:

Just try to hold anything under your tongue for a while, it leaks down into the esophagus and so an undetermined percentage of the stuff that’s supposed to be sublingual is really an oral use of a substance. Now, when you have an oral use, you’re talking about pushing the effect back an hour and a half. So now you’ve got two different curves, and I think it makes it much more difficult for the patient to find the right dose, no matter how good a learner he is. That’s complicated by the fact that the absorption rate from the gastrointestinal tract is quite variable—depending on the state of my GI tract, when I’ve eaten, and so forth—so even though you may take the same amount orally, you don’t get the same effect orally on any two occasions.

Cesamet is an oral drug so you also have the difficulties with titrating the dose and timing it properly.

Given that there are strains that are starting to become available that are high in CBD and the exorbitant price of Sativex, Cesamet and Marinol, cannabis is a much better option since it cuts out the pharmaceutical companies altogether and saves yourself and the taxpayer a fortune. Not only that, but the actual growing process is just as therapeutic to people suffering from chronic illness since it gives them something to focus on and allows them to achieve something. The satisfaction when you've just finished a crop is immense.

Sativex is so god damn expensive, I don't know how anyone can afford it...

Working in a drug store I had the opportunity to see a box of sativex retailed at about 500$ and i'm pretty sure it's not the kind of medicine the insurance companies cover...
