CEPS Well Hung Parliament (CEPS Social/Off Topic)

Wherever I end up next in life, I'll be undoubtedly surrounded by even more Trump lovers. Speaking out about it then will only make me a target, I'm certain.

I dunno. I used to think immateriality was important and protecting the future was just and all that. But in the past few years I've realized it's just easier to give in to the system, and let the next generation die for my gains. Unless society makes a 180 all of a sudden, I'm probably gonna stick to that mentality. I mean, I go out and vote. I stand up to injustice I see in my daily life. I recycle. But I'm gonna live a very material life and I'm accepting it.

Selfishness is the American dream, and I've finally realized it.

Supporting Trump, being conservative to some degree, and being called liberal in CE&P are two completely different things, dammit.

The American Dream is about class mobility imo. It's not dead, but it's seriously hurting if you accept that definition.

it's not about hating the people, it's about opposing and challenging the myths and beliefs that got them there - and the systems that have made the whole thing possible.
people who think that trump is just another brand to go along with are get fucked over just as much as everyone else - but if you watch fox news and consume only information that is uncritical of trump, you may never be presented with enough knowledge to understand the harm he is doing.

a lot of the trump admin's token gestures cause a lot of hurt and suffering - like the continual attacks on transgender rights - because it shores up trump's base, who mostly have never been exposed to the sort of people who are affected.
i don't really know what goes on in those people's minds, but i suspect it's got everything to do with "us and them" and suspicion of people fighting for rights that you can't understand or relate to.

sure, they might not see the harm in a president ridiculing rape survivors, or constantly accusing black people of being unintelligent - because trump doesn't aim his messages at an intellectual crowd. i don't suspect many trump supporters care about how polluted the planet is, until you tell them they can't fish in the local stream because it's too polluted - and that being the case, they'll probably never realise that will happen more and more since trump gutted the EPA and environmental funding.

it's important to try to find issues that such people can relate to if you want to talk to them about it.
if you don't want to talk to them about it, that's understandable too.

This is my first time stopping in this thread, and I wanted to comment that this is very well stated. Very well.

Respect.

Can you hate people for doing evil things when they believe they're doing God's work?

so its cool to go out and murder a bunch of people because God told me to? sweet! i know a lot of other serial killers and tyrants have used that excuse too, like dubya telling everyone that god told him to invade iraq, and literally every theocracy to have ever existed and ever will exist, including the one your father wants to force on everyone.

the ends do not justify the means. evil is judged based on actions, not intent. unless you're cool with human experimentation and all kinds of inhumane, horrific, and unconscionable shit, because, yaknow, "we're only trying to make things better!"

^Perhaps he meant 'can you judge people for evil actions if they thought they were doing good?' I think that yes indeed, you can, but you then inevitably slip into realms higlighting the subjectivity of morality.

^Perhaps he meant 'can you judge people for evil actions if they thought they were doing good?'

i wanted to make special mention of "civilizing the savages" (aka forcing christianity upon everyone, particular everyone thats not of european descent) but didnt manage to work it in, but it still comes from "because god told me to", so

I feel you guys. I mean, morality is honestly a very subjective subject. That's more of what I was trying to highlight.

I'm a poly-substance abuser, and many people believe I should be put to death for that. But obviously they think I'm destroying all that is good in the world. You feel me?

I like to tell my dad that I trip acid in his house, when house sitting for him. He gets so uppity and it gives me a laugh.

My wife told me I should stop hanging out in CE&P cause it gets me too riled up.

I won't tell if y'all won't tell :p

The Senate race in Florida is so huge. Sinema (D) winning in Arizona puts the current Senate at 47-51.

Mississippi is likely to go (R) and Florida is anyone's game.

So, at best for R's, 47-53.

At best for Dems, 48-52.

That's a net gain of +1 or +2 for the Republicans, in a year where they had only eight seats up and Dems + Independents defended 26 seats.

This is a PSA brought to you by a kind and caring c-Dugz: get your flu shot!!!!!!!

It is going to be a nasty season, and the most undervaccinated age group is 18-34, with white males having the lowest vaccination rates of that subgroup.

It doesn't matter what the facts and figures are if it is you.

The flu can kill a healthy male in his early 20s (case a doctor of mine had), so please go forth and get your jab.

Please get vaccinated early and often.

:), CD

Swilow, just a quick question though it might sound a little odd. Did you get my pm from one week ago? Did you reply? I am a little confused.

Hey mate, yes I got a pm and replied to you. You then replied to my reply but I haven't yet gotten around to re-replying to yours. :)

I am terrible at pms so please be patient <3

Ha never fear, your head is okay :)

I honestly always have over ten unread or unanswered pms. I need to try and improve this trait. Sounds like an easy new years resolution...
