Get your filthy hands off my desert

Not now, John

old school. also great: Pink Floyd: On The Turning Away... The Gunner's Dream... The Postwar Dream...

p.s., the real lyrics to not now john are "fuck all that", not "stop all that". they had to change it for the music video

Pink Floyd is probably my favorite band of all time. Saw Animals show at Aneheim Stadium in 70's and have loved that "album" ever since.... :Pigs... "Hey you, Whitehouse, Ha ha charade you are" I know they were mostly referring too Mary Whitehouse but they were clever enough to know how to resonate with both in their home country and America... Many songs still relevant today which is why they are so popular with this generation. 2 of 3 teen sons love their music.

animals was the child of another roger waters concept; loosely based on george orwell's political fable animal farm, its lyrics described various classes in society as different kinds of animals; the combative dogs, despotic ruthless pigs, and the "mindless and unquestioning herd" of sheep.[8] whereas the novella focuses on stalinism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs.[8][9] the album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which, in the words of author glenn povey, "described the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of mere animals."[10]

apart from its critique of society, the album was also in part a response to the punk rock movement,[11] which grew in popularity as a nihilistic statement against the prevailing social and political conditions, and also a reaction to the general complacency and nostalgia that appeared to surround rock music.

TFTI.... Was aware of the animal farm connection. IMO... Orwell was a genius and the book [like the album] are both timeless. I suspect the Orwell's of the world had influence on your social thought/beliefs. I was too busy partying in college to learn much and take this stuff seriously... definitely didn't care about... or try to understand the symbolism until later on. The pigs were my favorite in the book too... especially Napoleon. I doubt that's any surprise... Probably first read it in middle school.... It was recommended or required reading in some college course... borrowed the blue book.

Anyway, never thought about Animals being a response to punk rock popularity or movement. Alice Cooper was about as far out [no pun intended] as I got and he was no punk rocker . More like "shock rock".

Not very good quality but remember being in the upper deck and the whole structure shaking like a 3.33 on the richter scale
