Seriously, Russell Brand? I used to be so irritated with this "Russell Brand" movie and television persona. But I was quite impressed with this interview.

Indeed. During the Republican National Convention in Tampa last year, the Tampa PD was given a fucking APC. An APC! For a local municipal police department.

On the current financial problems


^this is part 1 of 3 (each part is ~30min, the last third is q&a). I came across this (again) recently while discussing econ in this subforum and wanted to share, as my viewpoints are largely his.
This is a man I hold in very high regards, and strongly endorse listening to this guy if you're ignorant on economics. He ran BB&T bank like a champ, and is now running CATO.

oh this was only in july.

in september GTAV was released after years and over $100M of production, yet they managed to incorporate the radio station to refer to this in a news report "[he was] a good police officer, harassing minorities and shooting their dogs...".

hilarious stuff and damn fast.

All of those radio stations are hilarious imo. all the websites too. I wish you had xbox%)
 
i do, but it's chipped and therefore useless for online. i've actually packed it up in my garage.

maybe when the game gets a super high def re-release on next gen, we can play together. :\

and yeah, the radio has been a massive strength in the franchise

aw that sucks. over here in america 360's can be bought dirt cheap atm, (I've seen them for as low as $60) is it the same over there?

And yes I know, this one is particularly good. imo the music on them could have been better though.

But jokes aside, this is the history of labour relations in America - a sad and poignant story.

EDIT: and it the interests of... well... something... I dunno, I'm fucking high... but in that interest, the only reason I hate them though is because we compete directly with them for hipster votes in inner-city electorates. So, like, fuck those cunts.
 
The US Greens differ from the US Democrats to some degree, in that the Greens are quite left of the Dems. How different are the Greens and Labor in Australia though?

It's interesting to see how international parties like the Greens or SA differ from the dominant parties in different countries. It's a good compass of where a country is politically granted that these international parties remain relatively the same in each country.
 
The Australian Greens sit to the left of the Labor Party, though probably to the right of SA. They run a solid social-democratic platform that can sit as easily with progressive minded small-business owners as it does with the industrial union base that Labor traditionally relies on. Those on the traditional left, socialist types, pooh-pooh the Greens as 'neoliberal' and it is true that many of their policies - e.g. carbon markets - is textbook economics stuff. They've had to fight hard against the perception of them being economic vandals, so keep a pretty tight ship when it comes to costing policy announcements and ensuring that they don't diverge too far from mainstream economic thinking - although it is fair to say the membership is probably a touch more radical in this respect than the party room.

This was in the paper today, just a short piece on the centre-left/centre-right divide and how it is managed by the respective parties

^As someone who fancies many ideas of the "traditional" left, I wouldn't necessarily describe the Greens as neo-liberal, but a real social-democratic internationalist party. My personal critique would be that they really aren't interested in replacing capitalism, or looking for alternatives. They're more interested in preserving and "fixing" capitalism by stabilizing it while providing some concessions to the people.

Also having lived in both countries, I find the platforms of both the US and AUS Green parties to be relatively similar. They're regarded as a little more radical here as our status quo is a bit to the right of yours, but this could also explain how the Democrats haven't been able to co-opt the Greens here, they're just far too center-left ;P

I registered with the Greens during the 2008 election, but never voted. That affiliation is behind me though, I'm afraid.
