So the "particle size" means the mask doesnt work for outside in prevention, but works for inside out prevention. LOL.

Please explain why the mandate is in place if it is not to prevent transmission of the virus.

It decreases the amount of virus any one person may be transmitting.

It is unknown who does and doesn't have the virus.

i.e. before widespread HIV testing was in place, condoms were more popular, because people were afraid (rightfully so) of contracting HIV and developing AIDS.

Filtering tar heroin with a cotton filter is not perfect; will let plenty of nasty shit through, but it captures something and in those larger particles are some shit you don't want... I still wouldn't recommend shooting tar heroin without a micron filter but a cotton is way better than nothing.

I would figure the IDU community understands the basics of masks and can compare them to cotton filters.
 
If I compared wearing a mask to wiping your ass, you could say "oh I never get all the shit from my ass when I wipe with toilet paper so why bother, I'll just walk around with skid marks in my underwear all day who gives a fuck"...

...to which I'd say, yes, that's your personal freedom but I am going to continue to use toilet paper, if you want to call me a sheep for that, go right ahead. (y)

It has repeatedly been stated that wearing a mask does not significantly decrease the risk of breathing in the virus. It does, however, do a great job at preventing mist that you exhale from going into the air. It's instead blocked by the mask. This reduces the transmission to others substantially. The purpose is to protect other people, not yourself, and if everyone did it, there would be a hugely reduced risk to everyone. Unfortunately a lot of people think they're too badass to be caught dead wearing a piece of cloth over their face in public like some sort of nerdy sheep, so wearing a mask isn't particularly effective because a significant percentage of people are refusing to do it.

I don't think we need to be locking down so hard, I think we could keep the economy mostly going, and be out in the world and go about our lives, but it relies on people taking a few really simple precautions, which include washing their hands, being cautious of personal space and wearing a mask when they're indoors in public. It's so fucking easy. Instead, people are acting like being required to wear a mask is a terrible affront to their freedom propagated by evil dictators and is indistinguishable from a Communist regime, so the re-openings are causing another wave of infection spikes, and will lead to another wave of increased lockdowns and further damage to the economy. This is SO easily avoidable but apparently it's just too much to ask that people take a few basic, incredibly easy and noninvasive precautions.

tl;dr - the mandate IS in place to prevent transmission of the virus.
