A few thoughts:

1. Wondered if it belonged in the 'Media Bias' thread, as each are using the same key phrases as if they are being fed talking points.
2. Wondered if it belonged in the 'Media Bias' thread with Fox ignoring Trump in favor of the social discourse on appropriateness by performers.
3. Trump is an ass. I wish he had a shock collar on his nuts to REMIND him to stand up when he is supposed to. At least he didn't take a knee.

At least he didn't take a knee.

kneeling is a respectful gesture. Kaepernick was showing reverence for the flag and what it is supposed to represent. We were and still are falling short.

Trump was showing complete disrespect and disregard. It's pretty hilarious that you view his behavior (the President of the United States) less problematic than Kaepernick's (an athlete).

Yeah I honestly never got the "kneeling is disrespect" thing. In what other scenario is kneeling disrespectful, and not actually showing deep respect? Is there historical precedent for kneeling during the national anthem being considered disrespectful? Because the whole manufactured Kaepernick "scandal" was the first I've ever heard of it.

Sometimes I turn down cake at a birthday party or a wedding, and then people look at me like "what are you trying to say?" as if I'm objecting to the whole ceremony just because I'm not partaking in eating this cake.

I just don't like cake. I don't feel the need to eat a cake slice to show that I'm in favour of something. I don't understand why every situation needs to be punctuated with this stupid ritual.

In fact I hate cake. I hate the formality and expectation and pressure that comes with the cake and I feel that people take cake and the symbolism of eating it way too seriously.

Now I have a no cake under any circumstance policy.

I had a point, something about the national anthem, the cake was supposed to be a metaphor for that.

indeed.

kaepernick kneeled quietly - a subtle form of protest he was encouraged to use by a u.s. military veteran - retired army green beret nate boyer.

meanwhile president trump:
  • never served in the military. he avoided serving in vietnam via five deferments - one for bone spurs, and four for education
  • said john mccain was only a war hero because he was captured. "I like people that weren't captured..."
  • called retired u.s. airforce colonel lindsay graham one of the "dumbest human beings" he'd ever seen
  • called retired four-star general john allen "a failed general"
  • attacked the family of capt. humayun khan - a u.s. soldier who died serving his country
  • insulted the family of sgt. la david johnson - a u.s. soldier who died serving his country. in a phone call to the dead solder's family he forgot la david's name, made his mother cry and told his father that he "knew what he had signed up for"
  • insulted rep. conor lamb - a marine corps veteran
  • criticized retired admiral william mcRaven - a former navy seal
  • insulted retired four-star general stanley mcchrystal
  • called democratic rep. seth moulton - who served as a marine in iraq - "a frickin' coward"
  • called retired four-star general jim mattis "the world's most overrated general" and said he wasn't "tough enough"
  • called bill taylor - who served in the army and completed two tours of vietnam - a "never trumper". he refered to "never trumpers" as "human scum"
  • called lt. col. alexander vindman - a recipient of the purple heart - a "never trumper". he refered to "never trumpers" as "human scum"
  • hypocritically did not "stand proudly" during the national anthem
and kaepernick is the one who's disrepectful?

:(

you said "at least he didn't kneel" , so yeah

Sarcasm doesn't translate well in this instance. I'd assumed folks would pick up on this part indicating I don't think Trump is fine

Trump is an ass. I wish he had a shock collar on his nuts to REMIND him to stand up when he is supposed to.

Did you miss that part? It's right there in front of the part you grabbed, so I find it hard to believe you missed it.

no I didn't miss that. you made it clear what Trump did was wrong. what I'm not clear on is which person's behavior do you see as more disrespectful to the flag?

if you are saying "at least he didn't kneel" was sarcasm, then that clears it up. Except I thought you had been pretty critical of Kaepernick in the past.

oh, i missed one example of how president trump respects the military...
  • he used funds, in part raised in the name of military veterans, from his charitable foundation (a "shocking pattern of illegality") to, among other things, pay for his campaign, pay business debts and buy a portrait of himself
and kaepernick is the one who's disrepectful?
