I was perusing through the National Theatre bookshop last week when I overheard a conversation between the two guys behind the counter. One of them mentioned that he'd seen Matt Damon in the street during his lunch hour that day. This got me thinking, which celebrities have you seen/met in your time?. I personally have never been too lucky in this department. Although, I once met a band called Sleeper at a record signing. And I ran into Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney in the toilet after one of their shows.

Mine aren't exactly film/TV related so you'll have to continue with more suitable tales. What were your thoughts on them?, what did they say? etc.

One time I ate dinner at Rosebud in Chicago.. and guess who was next to me?

THE BOSS!

That's right, be jealous. ;)

wow, tony. im weak in the knees

i had an 'encounter' with the real boss. i walked past springsteen on the street and into the record store with him.

fun idea for a thread!

i hung out with missing persons one night, (watched an orgy between my slut friend and dale and the drummer...that was my first night rolling lol) and ian mcchullough from echo and the bunnymen for a few nights, that was pretty cool, and surreal, was always a big fan. you 80's fans would know those names.

also hung out with some band called prick (???) and lords of acid one night, when i used the band manager of prick to get into a show that i didn't have a ticket for. (bad girl)

went to the movie premier party for blade a few years back and met wesley snipes and stephen dorff. stephen happened to be there with these two hot twins i was friends with years before, so i hung out with them a bit.

ran into paris hilton last year at her club here in orlando. we were up in vip room and her, her sis and mom happened to show up that night. i was on the floor dancing and looked up and wondered why everyone was staring at me. got a big head for a bit, till i turned around :p she looked awful by the way. fake hair, and some glittery looking prom dress bullshit with tacky shoes. her mother looked like an over tanned tramp trying to be 20 years younger than the good goddess made her.

ran into emilio estevez in atlanta when he was filming new jack city, when i was like 15 or so. watched my mom flirt with him while he was in the middle of jogging with his security guard. finally dragged her away ashamed after 10 minutes of torture.

dj keoke crackoki partied at a friends house quite a bit in midtown, atlanta these past few years. i can honest say, i never saw that man sober. ran into him again at a restaraunt in orlando 3 years ago, and he ran into a bathroom to pass out. that dude is as fucked as the rumors go lol

and like 10 years ago, my uncle was on miami vice =D i think those are my only celeb run ins

I only know people who saw celebrities...

--A friend of mine saw Conan O'Brien at the airport once.

--Another friend of mine saw Patrick Stewart at an airport. He said he was talking on his cell phone, though my informant believed he might have been just pretending to keep strangers away.

--I knew someone who said he saw Alec Baldwin in California once. My friend said he shouted out to him, "Sliver ruled!", whereupon the Baldwin flipped him off. :D

Etc...

Probably the closest I've come to meeting a celebrity was going to a show by the Amazing Kreskin as a kid. If you have no idea who Kreskin is, then you understand why this isn't something usually bragged about.

Shit!. I completely forgot that I ran into Nadia (the transexual Big Brother 5 winner here in the UK) in a club earlier this year. I saw her heading towards me and I remember thinking, "who is that?. Did we go to school together?" lol

most of my encounters are really music-related, but i'll post anyway...

  • one of the galagher brothers of oasis was at the oral surgeon's office with me about 10 years ago
  • boyfriend is good friends with taking back sunday, and so i've hung out with them quite a few times
  • went to HS with the drummer of FATA (francis) and i still see him around at shows often
  • met zimzum of marilyn manson right after he left the band
  • partied with mindless self indulgence while in HS
  • met various djs- sandra collins, x-dream, micro, rabbit in the moon...
  • met countless hardcore bands - silent majority, the casualties, vod, sworn enemy, poison the well, nora, neglect, madball, etc, etc, etc (few people on the board care to hear a complete list... not that i'd be able to produce a complete one anyway)

one of the chicks from mtv's Road Rules a few years ago went to my college after the show... i saw her a few times, but never approached her. she was a bitch on the show ;) but now i can't remember her name or anything.

i smoked a cigarette with uwe bolle and clint howard at the world premiere of 'house of the dead' in san francisco. they invited me and a couple of friends to the after party to we went along to that too.

i chatted with jerri manthey (survivor, series 2) at burning man one year. it took me a while to place her but i finally got it. she's tiny in person.

i met perry farrell at burning man one year and, about a week later, at a psytrance party in san francisco. he remembered me and told me i was "that cool magicglasses guy". perry farrell thinks i'm cool!

i used to have a tv crush on irene from mtv's the real world (seattle). one night i was off my face on mdma at club 550 in san francisco and i bumped into her. i tried to talk to her but i was unable.

on the musical tangent, i've given magicglasses to most big name djs i can think of inluding digweed, pvd and timo maas (who gave me a hearty hug of thanks). also, lee burridge and cass cutbush who spun in my living room for 6 hours one time

in our posts, let's try and mention at least one movie or tv-related celebrity so we can keep this on-topic :)

I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging, but here's my list:

I met Al Roker in a mall once, before he was famous.
I've also met Rick Springfield, Jack Hannah and Sum 41.

I know, I know. I'm one lucky bitch.

i used to work at a valet company in la, and i had alot of celebrity encounters..
we worked rodney dangerfield's funeral and other events like that. at rodney dangerfields funeral , there were gangs of comedians. some i remember were adam sandler, chris rock, jay leno, jim carrey...

other times i saw ben stiller, lionel richie, xzibit (drove his hummer), salma hayek, arnold schwarzenegger, michale eisner (didnt tip shit), sylvester stallone (complete dick)

but the two i remember most were harrison ford and larry david. because im big fans of theirs.

harrison ford pulled up in a bmw station wagon and mentioned something about getting gifts out of the back , he said this to me. i drove his car. i didnt say anything cool, cos i was kinda star struck. i shoulda said "ok indiana."

larry david was memorable as well because he was talking to me and looking at me and making some jokes about the weather.

i probly sound so dumb, talking about being star struck, but ya , those were my encounters...

Dude, you hung out with Uwe Boll!?Did you at least tell him his movies suck? If not, you just lost all your cred.

Back on topic - I went to one of my local bars a few weeks ago and Don Vito from Viva la Bam was sitting there, belly up, suckin' on a bud.

I was in a costume and magic shop over a decade ago and Krist Novoselic from Nirvana came out of nowhere and stepped on my toe. I was really young at the time and didn't recognize him... at all. All I remember is that some giant mofo stepped on me.

I have a picture of Gunnar Hanson (the original leatherface) with his hands around my throat while I grin like a moron...

lol was Irene that mad one who liked Neil Diamond and nobody else could get along with?. If so, she was one of my favourites too. I think I stopped watching after that series :\

What a great thread! I've got one.

When I was a sophmore in high school (90),a friend of mine asked me to go to this small punk show headlined by a little known band at the time (Green Day) They were doing their first cross country tour (in a van) and the played a show in Atlanta, where I was living at the time. We stayed after the show and got to hang out with the band, we drank some beers and had an all-around good time. Fast foward to 1993, Green Day was on tour with Bad Religion and they came back to Atlanta and played a much larger (but not stadium) sized venue. Towards the end of the show the lead singer Billy Joe recognized me and me and my girlfriend and a few other friends got invited back stage and to their hotel, we partied down and it was a goddamn blast.

I have another one involving Bill Clinton that I will write a bit later when I have more time.

whatever. i have you beat. i snuck out in the 7th grade and met the new kids on the block at their hotel, and tiffany too.

also, almost ran over carrot top when he was crossing a street to go to a gig we were gonna see in atlanta. shouldn't have hit the brakes in retrospect.

i literally almost knocked michael stipe (REM) on his ass coming out of a philly connection in downtown athens, ga. almost 10 years ago i guess. i barreled out of there not paying attention and he had to side-step the swinging door. i got a glimpse of who i *thought* it was and was like, "no way" and turned back around to see him turning to look at me. :)

edit for DM: awww...i kinna like carrottop! :)

once me and my little brother were walking down broad street here in philly when randall 'tex' cobb walked past us.

we did not stop him to talk, for he is every bit as scary looking in real life as he is in movies.

--

once i was walking past the TLA here after a peter buck concert when he shook my hand and thanked me for coming out to the show, to which i brightly said "i didn't come see your concert. i was just walking down the street."

--

another time me and some friends were hanging outside a bar smoking a joint when steve poltz gave an impromptu street performance, since none of the 5 people that showed up to see him were old enough to go into the bar he played at. he gave my friend eddie a guitar pick and then kissed him.

--

i have lots more but none of them are really that funny or interesting enough to tell.
(not that the ones i did tell were that interesting, either)
