Finally finished my paper for my Asian politics class, 3700 words later.....

Any guesses what country I chose?

We have a winner, come on down L2R, although my focus was more on modernization than ancient culture.

to be fair, escher explicitly got there first. did you incorporate the news today? 3700 words is pretty hectic, dude. must be a hell of a relief, kudos.

Discuss.

Don't get me wrong, I still hate America too.

On a different note, I notice that Americans have an extreme attention deficit and have severe problems with memory and organization? Is it an austistic spectrum disorder or early onset Alzheimer's? Discuss.

^ TV, Internet, and iPhones.

We've been conditioned to have the attention span of goldfish.

I'm reading about a hypothetical scenario called the dollar auction lately.

Two rational actors are both in an auction for a dollar bill. The rules are simple:

1. Each bid has to be higher than the previous bid.
2. Each actor has to pay their bid at the close of the auction, regardless of if they win or lose.

The result is interesting. Think about it. The first actor has an incentive to bid $.01 (and gain $.99, the second has an incentive to bid $.02, and gain $.98 ... When the second actor bids $1.00 (the value of the dollar), the first actor is facing a loss of $.99, and has a very rational incentive to bid $1.01 - reducing his or her loss to $.01. Of course, then the second actor has a rational incentive to bid $1.02, reducing his or her loss to $.02...

I'm trying to think of a real-world scenario in capitalism.

This applies moderately well to marketing, capturing in part the late-stage arms-race where brands must maintain a certain presence to avoid simply fading into obscurity in ad-saturated multi-media. Coca-Cola must continue to remind consumers of its existence in a multitude of ways...
