CE&P social thread: why do the people I disagree with hate freedom so much?

next year will be here in a flash.

Making $11/hour really, really sucks. But the one advantage is, that if you can learn to thrive on that wage (and it's possible, but you'll have to learn thrift), once you make real money, you won't be under the illusion you're poor.

on top of this, if you can manage with your resources as they are, you will use the future real money far more wisely. hang in there, care.

I'd like a part time job while studying full time. I'm getting full grants and loans from the government which cover my classes, housing and food while doing so, but a little extra spending cash wouldn't be so bad.

However, I can get by on student handouts until I graduate if absolutely necessary. I don't feel any shame or remorse in receiving them, I'm studying in a scientific field, it's an investment for the government who is giving me the grants and it's an investment for myself who has to return the loans. If all goes according to plan I'll be flipping burgers with a baccalaureate degree for a few years before I start earning some real money and paying some real taxes.

So, thank you for your money everyone. And for future's sake, you're welcome.

since we're all whinging about cash, i can't believe how long we've been surviving on my income alone. infant, mortgage rates, strata expenses, rent and my uni debt are all smashing us to the point that we're barely making any progress at all, but we are and it is a tiny trickle. this hardship we're enduring should put us on a great foot once the wife is back to earning a reasonable income, but who knows when they will be.
and we still want to pop another little one out before too long.

sigh
i desperately need a holiday, it's been almost three years. it will probably be three more before any rest comes my way.

Well, I had an expensive week. If I average out my monthly bills, I spent 45% of my take-home income for the week.

Not really fond of that idea. That's higher than I'd like.

I'm going over my domestic ledger and figuring what I want to cut back on.

defense spending. consider installing energy saving globes in your motion detecting lights, and perhaps a real guard dog instead of a tape recording going through a loop incessantly. no one's buying the jungle noises anyway.

*thieves walk past EW's house*
thief 1: what about this one?
thief 2: no way, man. i hear they got a guard giraffe.

i hear you honey; but please be assured that its worth it. you won't appreciate it today or tomorrow; nor can i guarantee than in five years from now you'll appreciate the hardships. but without them you wouldnt be where you are today; and your family wouldn't have accomplished/achieved what you have.

it's hard. it wasnt meant to be easy. stand back; take a deep breath and never forget to remind yourself; 'i
worked hard for this and am proud of where we are'

One thing I'll have to say about income is that our present culture is really good at selling us an expensive life. And we're prone to buying into it - if we have some extra cash, many of us will spend it on something. Maybe it ties into our hunter-gatherer brains, that cash is the equivalent of ripe berries, and we must consume (spend) it or it will go to waste. Or maybe it's a status thing - we believe that we should keep up with the Joneses, that we should have the same nice things as they do, even though they are probably deeply in debt.

Be conscious of what you spend and why. Be discerning before you buy something. Would a substitute work just as well for you? Do you really need it? Is it a good value? Don't get into mindless consumption. If you need it, compare the cheapest solution to what you want, and ask if the difference in price is worth it.

Im breaking even after the essentials and i live very frugally so its not like im in over my head in debt (yet anyways, I will be after grad school).

I just feel like it sucks that I spend so much time at a job and don't have the time/money to get anything enjoyable or substantial out of it when all is said and done. All the while i see older people who grew up in one of the largest economic booms in the history of the world living in big houses with 6 figures in the bank looking down on me. To them im just some lazy millennial who wants a free ride, which is funny because the older generation said the same thing about the baby boomers back in the day. I hope that if/when im in their shoes that im less cynical about the younger generation.

I wish that I lived back then when college was all but free and you were guaranteed a job once you got out. I wish the price of living was less than the minimum wage in most places like it was back then, but it isn't. Nope, in order to have any kind of shot at the american dream I have to mortgage my life on an overpriced tuition that may or may not pay off in the end. its just really frustrating because I feel like I have a lot to offer to the world, and there is very little opportunity to realize that potential.

And 11$ an hour in California is SHIT. I am glad to have a job though, there was a period where I didn't and it was tough.

i've been packing my own lunch for so long now i've begun to prefer it, despite the added morning chore.

in 10 days; but whos counting. i cant wait to smoosh the cheeks of that adorable son of yours.

as for work lunches; i dread my lazy days where i have to purchase lunch at the cafeteria. i love packing containers of freshly cut veges; and have a bottle of balsamic dressing in the fridge with my name on it that i happily share among my colleagues. cans of flavored tuna, whole avocados, peppers and crispbreads are an awesome staple, as are instant soups, cup noodles and loaves of bread, tubs of single dips and some nommy cheeses. its so cheap and simple to sustain yourself healthily at work, it seems a crime to purchase food daily out of convenience.

I always pack my lunch too. Im such a habitual eater its crazy.

My diet basically consists of hamburgers, quesadillas, meat+veggie sandwiches, chicken salads, baked potatoes, orange juice, coffee, cold cereal (mostly frosted mini-wheats or life) and whey and milk protein shakes. Basically tons of dairy/meat protein and fats/carbs about even. I eat a LOT lol, part of the reason im so broke.

I dont drink sodas or eat candy unless I somehow get it for free, and I do drink beer probably twice a week on average.

Been weight training and trying to eat right for a couple years now im about 6'2 175lbs, leaner and stronger than ive ever been, feels great.

Sorry, this is what I think about when people mention food....

Why don't you guys "nom" on this: Why can't we be cool again and stop saying retarded words like "nom" and "meh" and not give away how the extreme suburban nerdy comptuter/smart phone obsessed way of life has now dominated America? I was once a man of the streetz, and we tru G's think yo' asses are corny and a bit shady too saying wack ass words like that.

I guess I can't blame CIA director Dave Petraeus for not wanting to smash some of this and get into something different:

Well, being cool is the most important thing, so I better stop saying "nom".

care i can appreciate that.

i love eating right and feeling my best physically. my 30's have been very kind in that regard.

the better i eat, the harder i work out, the more i sacrifice and take positive risks to stabilize our future; the better i feel.

growing older isnt a destination; its a journey. i love having the power to play with it and make it however i want it to be; provided im willing to work hard for it.
