Political Science Major at CSU Fresno.

Im considering Law School after I graduate but im not sure yet. I have no money so I would need to take out loans to pay for tuition, and from what I hear there arent that many jobs for attorneys fresh out of law school unless youre the top of your class or go to an ivy league caliber school.

I have a few family members that are relatively high up in the Federal Governemnt so I may just try to use those connections to get a job as a peon somewhere after I graduate and hopefully work my way up.

Right now im just focusing on getting my bachelors, ill worry about the rest when the time comes.

^when you gonna finish yours? mine will be done in september (major history and politics, but did a bit of sociology and philosophy too).

Cool, that's what I did. I was almost close to a double major in History too. Lot of good overlapping between the subjects. Are you studying any theory and the classics like John Locke, Edmund Burke, Hobbes, Plato etc.? You gotta have these classics. Holla at me on this social thread if you got questions about stuff in your classes. Discussing it on here may help you with coming up with a research paper, an exam or something else. I love to talk about the stuff I had to read back in school.

Being a lawyer could be tough. You could also go for a Masters of Public Admin.

They give the option of choosing which philosophical era you want to study. Im choosing to focus on post Machiavelli rather than ancient philosophy. Im about 1/3 of the way done with my upper division courses. So far most of the theory ive learned about has been in the realm of international political relations, and breaks down into the categories of marxism/liberalism/realism/constructivism. Its interesting to see how the different theories came in and out of vogue over the course of history to create the regimes in the international system we have today. My professors mainly focused on people that contributed to these theories (Kant, Thucydides, Smith, Gramsci, Marx, Lenin, Machiavelli ect).

Im also taking political analysis classes, which is basically advanced statistics with a focus on politics, definitely the hardest and most tedious of the classes in my major.

Im not afraid of law school, im afraid of not having a job once I graduate I did mock trial in high school and would love to be a trial attorney but the path to get to that point is very narrow so im not sure if I want to risk it.

@Care

If you want to be a lawyer go for it. Somebody's gonna retire and create a need for one somewhere. I couldn't imagine the shit weighing on my conscience though, especially in a criminal case.

I studied mostly post Machiavelli too. Also did some IR too. I like the realists and constructivists.
My lib-democrat teachers accidently turned me on to some "conservative" thought too. At first, when I saw guys like Edmund Burke and Alan Bloom, I was like wtf? these guys blow, but I read them seriously and now they are two of my absolute favorites. they "do it right."

But, the ancients aren't bad to read either.

So I'm taking an American government class and we are required to answer a question on the school's American government message board.

The topic was illegal immigration and hilarity was certain to ensue.

NSFW:
I just spent about 30 minutes reviewing the US Citizenship and Immigration Services website. I find it difficult to imagine why immigrants cannot obtain a green card legally given all the options and qualifications available. In fact, the only thing that would conceivably disqualify an individual for a green card is a criminal history, an affiliation to the Communist Party, or a polygamist. Therefore, I am lead to believe that all illegal immigrants are criminals, Communists, or polygamists. It’s no wonder over 70% of all illegal immigrants in the United States are supported by a welfare program. It’s easy to see why these degenerates would need such a program to support their corrupt lifestyles.

Actual response as to "how immigration affects local communities".
