Cannabis vs Alcohol debate

but its been my experience that, long-term, marijuana isn't nearly as benign as a lot of potheads think.

ewe,

i spent an hour looking for my bowl last night after smoking some hash. it was on my nightstand. i just wanted to smoke some more but I couldn't find it. so i started stressing out a lot.

i'd say overall, smoking has been physically unobtrusive for me over the past 5 years or so. of course i'm only speaking subjectively but the only times i ever feel like MJ is causing some sort of negative cognitive or emotional issue is when i'm high and always goes away when i'm not. physically, yea i do spit some gross stuff up every once in a while.

what are these non-benign symptoms you speak of?

Mary Jane is a kind girl, but if you abuse her she'll stop being so nice. Its usually pretty subtle though, IME the problems stem from living in a chronic state of hazyness and low-motivation; which allows you to remain functional but still not capable of performing at your full potential. It really comes down to how much you value performance, if you have a demanding job or course of study cannabis can start getting in the way pretty quickly. Its all relative though, really. What some people might consider significant impairment, others will experience as pleasant relaxation, etc.

Also, I recommend using a vape, you'll stop coughing up gross stuff. There are also several legitimate studies linking heavy cannabis consumption to bullous emphysema, so a vape seems to be well worth the investment. :) Cannabis smoke doesn't cause cancer, but its still smoke and will mutilate your lungs after a while. Its best not to smoke anything if you can avoid it.

i'm not trying to hate on pot. but claiming that one recreational psychoactive is somehow more noble than another is ridiculous. both have positives. both have negatives. both can be a good time if used responsibly, and derail your life if used irresponsibly.

I agree.

i think that's a good idea too. i don't know much about vaporizers tho. i would consider getting a volcano but it's super pricey. i've used a cheap vape before and it wasn't worth a fuck (temperature was inconsistent and ambiguous...didn't read in farenheit or celcius, just an arbitrary #).

is the volcano good enough to be that expensive or are there cheaper, effective alternatives?

i duno... didnt want to seem like i was hating on it. I was just talking through my personal experience. I gained so much from cannabis and nothing from alcohol. but hey, to each his own i guess.

exactly.

the trouble for me was almost the problems that cannabis DIDN'T cause. it didn't cause me to fail at school or go broke or lose all my friends, so i didn't see much need to cut back. but i was getting B's and C's instead of A's . . spending time and money on smoking that i could have spent on more rewarding and productive things . . half-assing my social life and not having nearly as much fun as i could have in college. i wasn't fucking up, but i was getting a lot less out of life than i could have.

and that's the pattern i see with so many other pot smokers. they feel like as long as they're not getting fired from fast foods jobs or taking bong hits instead of exams, they're defying the stereotype and thus are a "successful stoner." but they don't realize how much more they could accomplish if they raised their standard to "successful person."
