Canada: New enforcement rules on drug-impaired driving

I think the key is to make the tests not overly sensitive though so to avoid you getting picked up unless you honestly are high at the time.

i think you seem to have missed the point of this conversation. they CAN'T do that, but have decided to approve the tests anyway.

whats going to happen no one will end up being charged most will be thrown out in court, a big fat waste of folks money and time.

Could they request a blood test for more accurate results?

not necessarily. Not if they define intoxication as having x in your bloodstream.

i rly dont care if people smoke and drive.

what i'm really concerned about is the people who drive around high on E, high on acid, mush.

smoking a joint and driving is harmless for most people. of course there is the occasional idiot who cant handle his shit, those should be arrested. but if you show no obvious impairment, there should be no problem.

yes they can request a blood sample for further testing if they wish and they can do a saliva on spot.

Now remember there looking for people who look like they are driving high, so you should be ok as long as you keep your cool, but i still dont like the fact that i could get in trouble just for having something in my blood stream that i took 2 days ago, that troubles me.

Thats the problem, its so hard to put a figure on that so its easier to just outright make it illegal.

Has that ever actually happened to anyone though?

yes indeed, marijuana does impair my judgement while driving for a fact. sometimes i will start to panic when im on a thruway/highway. i will all of a sudden forget left from right...yeah, um..obviously not nearly as bad as alcohol impairs you, but still there is some cloudiness.

i dont care if marijuana becomes legal or not as a matter of a fact, and my reasoning is because the law in the US/Canada has loosened up on it sooo much that most cops dont even care if you possess an OZ or less, most of them make u stomp it out on the ground and drive away if ur caught. FEDS and Police are more focused on the heroin/cocaine problem in the US as it is they totally disregard marijuana unless your moving massive pounds of herb. Besides marijuana would probably be more expensive at stores then it is on the street right now if it were to be legal. just my 2 cents..ill just stick to buying marijuana off of friends and smoking in the comfort of my home, when i do smoke, which isnt often because i am not too fond of being paranoid and social anxiety.

Its good here in Australia, if your found with a small bag of marijuana most cops will just confiscate it and give you an on the spot fine or let you off with a warning.

Ultimately though, I think for the average joe a spliff is certainly going to impair his driving, and this is what we want to avoid. I've never seen drug driving buses out (like you do for drink driving) but I'm sure if you get pulled over and are clearly baked they have the facilities to test you. Its usually fairly obvious if someone is on enough drugs to be impaired and I believe the office will use his discretion when testing for it.
