Can Risperdal cancel ones (bad) psychedelic experience?

If someone were to take a psychedelic, not unlike acid, and the trip would turn into a terrible bummer, would the ingestion of an antipsychotic such as risperdal "abort" the trip? I heard this somewhere, and I have some risperdal lying around, so I was just wondering.. not sure wether this is the appropriate forum for such questions??

An AP will diminish most of the psychedelic effects such as hallucinations and mind fuck but you will not be returned to complete sobriety. Also keep in mind that these are rarely appropriate as aborting a bad trip can leave you with quite a bit of unresolved baggage that you should have worked out during the journey. However it may be a good option if you trip goes awry because of a bad environment, emergency, or full blown psychotic episode. However if troubling personal issues are bubbling to the surface you are best to work through them without APs. In many instances a small dose of benzos are great because they can take away alot of the anxiety but still allow you to bring the issue to a conclusion.

Risperidone exacerbates the effects of the hallucinogen-precipitated psychoses. It's contraindicated. This is very well documented. See here, for instance.

I'm not sure if that holds for psychosis/delirium during intoxication, but I wouldn't mix the two. The best remedy for a bad trip is 10-20mg diazepam, po. That's what they'd probably give you in an ER.

Seep I could not access the entire article but the overview seems to suggest nothing about psychoses, it just deals with residual visuals classified as HPPD. There is a big difference between seeing tracers and being psychotic. An interesting finding none the less.

I would avoid using APs at all costs, some psychiatrists have even theorized that the vast majority of post hallucinogen mental illness is in fact triggered by the APs that many a bad tripper have administered forcibly in the hospital, and not the hallucinogen itself. This is entirely theory at this point.

Take seeps advice, the best route of treatment is some oral valium. Barring that any benzo will do really.

if your od'ing on speede the go for it but ultimately neuroleptics are a horrible class of drugs that have often had a negative impact on peoples live, only usefull for those wayyyy beyond the scope of coping with their problems.

i've been prescribed them but my mum was not willing to pay for the prescription. i have bipolar but my life works just fine as i have engineered it to have as few stressors as possible. there are limitations but if you take them into account and have support from family when you need it your good to go.

What about opiates while on psychedelics? Just like 20mg vicodin or 100mg codeine while on shrooms or acid for a non-opiate-tolerant person? How would that play out?

You mean the roughly 1% of the population that suffers from schizophrenia, plus those who fall into the more acute regions of the schizotypal spectrum? This is potentially one to two hundred million people worldwide. That's, like, all of Russia.

I'm saying this because I've worked with many patients who've been able to return to functionality only after a neuroleptic is added to their regimen. Personally I can't stand these drugs (I've been on haloperidol, risperidone, olanzapine and quetiapine).
