I heard about CALIFORNIA POPPY on doc Oz awhile ago,and was wondering if anyone knows...

*Does it really help with pain?
*Can it help with opiate withdraw?
<snip>
*How much should I take when trying for first time?
Thank you in advance;)

The California poppy doesn't contain opium or any opiates, so it's probably not going to help with opiate withdrawal or pain. Apparently, it does have some sedative properties, though.

I'm very new to Bluelight, but as far as I know, asking for sources and asking how to take new drugs are both no-nos here.

california poppy is not an opium poppy. I would not go looking for this kind of poppy. P sem opium poppy is what you need

It is an OTC drug, and supposedly activates the opiate receptors...I'm asking if anyone has tried it,and if they can give insight from experience...It is what bluelight is for.Thanx though;)

We don't allow recommendations on bL as to where to get substances, no matter their legal status.

That said, sadly I'm not all that familiar with the drug, but hopefully someone else will come along who has some experience with it. If you'd like I'd be more than happy to direct you to related existing threads if you give me a bit more explanation about your reasons for wanting to try this, that way I'll know what direction to point you in.

Welcome to bL. :)

I've taken it for opioid WD and it does help somewhat with anxiety, pain, insomnia and other symptoms. You have to get a good quality extract. The mechanism of action is really not understood. Dose depends on the strength of your extract and your individual sensitivity. You pretty much have to figure out the dose by trial and error. I'd just start low and gradually increase as needed.

I have been a poppy tea drinker for about 15 years. I can tell you the California poppy does nothing for pain. There are plenty of sources out there for real poppy pods, of the opium variety and those do work for pain, depression, and lots of other stuff.

California Poppy pods are useless unless you like to put them in a vase. They are no way narcotic so therefore will do zero for pain or withdrawal.

Have you ever tried it? Or are you just making assumptions based solely on the fact that they aren't opium poppies?

Extract is made from the whole plant, not the pod by the way. They do contain active alkaloids.

OP - check out my California Poppy thread here: http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/658817-California-Poppy-(Eschscholzia-californica)

Thank you all so much...I am assuming the lack of information I find on it,is based on the infancy of the product.Or that it just doesn't work well.

I think it's mainly just not well known, especially in recreational drug user communities. A lot of people assume it doesn't do anything when they haven't even actually tried it, and then there are people who have tried a poor quality extract or too small a dose and found it didn't do much, and then there are some people who found it to not have much "recreational" effects and therefore think it is "useless" or must have no therapeutic effect. Then there is also the fact that being a plant, different plants are different, so different batches of the plant could be quite different, as could be different preparations. The extract I have feels to me somewhat like a combination between a benzo and a mild antihistamine with a very slight warm opiate-like feel, and does help me sleep during the terrible PAWS I am going through. I will try it some more times and let you know my further observations.

It is true that california poppies contain opiates (morphine, codeine), BUT the amount is SO very tiny that it can't be responsible for their effects. This does not mean they have no effects, plenty of things that are not opiates are useful for opiate withdrawal, pain, anxiety and sleep. There are so many different alkaloids in the plants and different batches probably contain different alkaloid profiles/amounts - there is more info on potential mechanisms of action in the thread I linked above. There have been studies on some of the alkaloids but it is difficult to pin down the mechanisms of action because it is a plant - different plants are different and there is likely a synergistic effect going on.

If you are going to try it get a strong high quality extract.

There are a few trip reports on here but they're mainly california poppy in combination with other herbs, here's a couple:
Passion Flower, Vervain, and California Poppy - New to C.P. - Excellent Dream Journey
Blue Lotus + California Poppy - Exp/Inexperienced - Subtle Relaxation

I tried Cali poppy extract I got online from a legal source. It wasn't anything like real p. somni's, but did have generally pleasing effects in low doses...my 2 red headed cents.

I realize this reply is a bit late. I have tried a high-quality, organic tincture. While it had no blow your mind high to it, it definitely did help with pain, ease withdrawal symptoms, as well as having some benzodiazepine like effects, which eased anxiety and promoted sleep.

Not sure exactly what alkaloids are in it, and need to do more research, but I think they must act, at least to a small degree, on opiate receptors. I am also curious as to what compounds in this particular type of poppy seem to act on benzodiazepine receptors. I definitely would not rule it out, but make sure you get a pure, organic tincture from a place like whole foods or an all natural store with high-end products.
