Do these weight loss pills actually work? I saw one and it had caffiene, ephedra, and a bunch of other random herbs i've never heard of. I'm desperately trying to lose some weight for something next month, so would using these for a month hurt me?

Ephedrine is a halfway decent anorectic (appetite suppresant) drug, and caffeine synergizes with it, causing a more pronounced effect. Tolerance to ephedrine (and ephedra) grows very fast though.

I wouldn't take them for a month, you'll develop a tolerance and possibly a dependency on the ephedrine, and will most likely gain some, if not all, of the weight back after you discontinue using the pills.

The most effective way to lose weight and keep it off doesn't involve using stimulant drugs. They're a short-cut that will do more harm than good in the long run.

this is a great explanation.

those are all thermogenics, meaning that they increase you body's metabolism, but they wont do much (if any at all) if your not exersizing and eating properly.

they might work as appetite suppresants too.

IMO you can use them to help jump-start your diet, but the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat a healthy diet and get regular exersize.

^Good point. I'm not saying they're not effective, but I am saying that they're a short cut and if you don't only use them as a starting point (a lot of people using caffeine during weight lifting - for example.

Using them for a month straight is going to cause more problems, though. Tread carefully and really moderate and you'll be okay. If possible, I would look through the ingredients of each preparation carefully, as many of them have more caffeine than they say on the label. Mixing lots of caffeine with even a small amount of ephedrine/ephedra is dangerous if you have a heart condition or do heavy cardio with that mixture in your system.

^yeah i think there were a few deaths from ephedra and thats why they banned it in the US.

if your looking for something to get you motivated, look into a phenylanine, tyrosine, or 5htp supplements. they all increase neurotransmitter levels so your less hungry and more motivated to go workout :)

as unrealistic as it sounds, caffeine is really addictive. it also increases the release of stress hormones, one of which is cortisol, which causes your body to retain fat. specifically around the waist.

oh and tyrosine is converted into thyroid hormone too so its adds a boost to your metabolism.

Unfortunately ephedrine is also banned is South Africa.
Unfortunately is was also the only thing that helped me for loosing weight, but as soon as I stopped taking it daily the weight just come back.
Unfortunately it also made me loose my mind. I just couldn't control my anger while using it, and I'm a long term methcathinone drug user.
Even after 8 years using cat I've never encountered any other substance that could get you that out of control angry.

I'm going to move this over to Healthy Living, I think you'll get better responses on how to lose weight and more effectively use this combination product to assist you, if you end up having to use it.

proper diet and exercise

even if you do not lose the amount of weight you want before the event next month (which is a ridiculous goal) it is a great way to start feeling good instead of desperate.

There are numerous other threads on diet pills, so while I am tempted to just close this and tell you to look for them, your thread also focuses on asking about the harmful side effects of taking the pills for a month.

Highly suggested reading: I'd do anything to be thin, can i get a little help here?, "Safe" Appetite Suppressants, annnnd best diet pills.

If you're looking for alternatives to diet pills, check out the rest of the forum, as you will find plenty of threads on that subject. :)
