Buspar Questions

I am currently prescribed 45 mg's of Buspar daily and 8mg's of Suboxone. This is a transition that I am making from 1.5mg of klonopin and 8mg of suboxone due to a doctor change. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with transitioning from klonopin to buspar and what their experiences have been like.

I also plan on working out a lot (weight lifting and cardio) and was wondering if it would be wiser on a health stand point to take my buspar before or after an intense work out.

Also if anyone who has had a lot of experience with buspar, I would appreciate any positive interactions you have had with this medication. ie) Natural supplements that are calming/relaxing

Thank you in advance for anyone who can help!!

One of my buddies gave me like 50 Buspars once (dont remember the dose, but they looked like xanax bars almost), and all I have to say is man, your doctor sure fucked you over by switching from Klonopin to Buspar. Buspar is about as worthless as tits on a bull, you might as well just tell your doc you dont need the prescription and use your subs only. No point in taking something thtas not gonna do shit for you. Tough break man :/

How long were you on the clonazepam (Klonopin) for? An abrupt discontinuation of Klonopin can/will cause benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome, if you were on it for long enough.

I think your new doctor should've at least slowly weaned you off of the benzo before giving you Buspar, a drug that's never done anything for my anxiety personally.

I was only on the klonopin for two months and I did a semi-quick taper, I'm hoping that I can find a combination with the buspar that will potentiate it's relaxing qualities. i'm guessing kava, pregablin, phenibut, valerian are some that could potentially work. Ugh. Yeah it does suck switching from an enjoyable klonopin to buspar.

Everything that you mentioned will definitely increase the anxiolytic effects of Buspar. But Buspar is one of the drugs that doctors claim takes "2 or 3 weeks" to achieve its full effect. IMO, anytime a drug takes 2 or 3 weeks to have some sort of an effect, it is completely and utterly fucking useless.

This is what buspar is indicated for: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) of very mild to moderate intensity, without panic attacks

And also, Grapefruit, grapefruit juice, significantly increases the plasma levels of buspirone.

And like I said man, IMO, your better off not taking anything than taking buspar. If i were you and my anxiety was really bad, I would go see another doctor or something.

^ Actually, none of those things (Kava, Valerian, Phenibut) will potentiate Buspirone. Buspirone's anxiolytic effects stem from its action on serotonin and adrenergic receptors - there's nothing about Buspirone to really potentiate. Some alkaloids found in Kava *may* interact with Buspirone, but that's about it. Regardless, Kava, Phenibut and Valerian do promote relaxation and Pregabalin can really calm your nerves (in my experience, at least), so they may be useful to you.

I'm with kokaino - Buspar never worked for me. But it's what you've got to work with, so hey, best of luck OhSeeAT :)

Buspar is a close to placebo as anti-anxiety meds get...

How Do you go from strong meds to a weakly comparing med like this.

Doctors are just assholes. He could have kept you on it tell the buspar is supposedly going to kick in.

Buspar is a horrible chemical. It made me unimaginably sleepy every time I took it, more like trazodone than anything else...and I was only taking 15mgs of it at a time.

As far as your workouts go, I wouldn't take a buspar and try to do anything physically exerting. Everyone of course is different, but for me, when I took it, it was lights out about 30 minutes later.

I have panic dosorder/ GAD/ depression. For me, buspar combined with zoloft worked just fine. Some people really need benzo's to treat their anxiety/panic but not everybody does. If you're addicted to benzo's, you really wont like buspar and I think this is why some people give it a bad review. It can really be effective if you give it a shot.

Still, it's worth noting that in some people- buspar can make anxiety worse so start on a realtively low dose. If you are used to taking SSRI's, I've found buspar will start working within a few days.

Yes, I ended up taking one, and felt nothing. Next day took two, and got a wierd tingling feeling that was extremely unenjoyable and uncomfortable. Luckily I got my script partially filled for free since it was only 15 out of 90, I'm not going back to get the rest. I'd rather try dealing wtih my anxiety with natural remedies over this Buspar. I loved taking my Klonopin and it leveled me out emotionally and regulated my anxiety beyond great.

The reason I got switched from Klonopin to Buspar was beacause my insurance for Suboxone ran out at a particular doctor and the only other place it would cover, DOES NOT prescribe ANY benzo with suboxone under any circumstance. Yeah it fucking sucks, but more importantly I can still get my suboxone, so I'll figure out a new way to regulate my anxiety/up and down fleeting emotions.

PS: Thank you for your posts, glad I didn't waste my time trying to mix it with an array of inhibitors, to get nothing out of it.

Dude it worked for me but then since my symptoms wore getting worse (not from the buspar) but overall, I stopped taking it then started an SSRI. But I did notice the Buspar helped with my racing heart, and sweating. For to people to say its completely useless is just stupid, because every obviously knows that medicine will effect everyone differently. Don't expect to feel anything crazy like klonopin or anything lol if you really want medication to help you don't look for a high, even thought I know how nice it is. Im eventually going to try and get a benzo for my anxiety cause its so fucked up like all the time I can't control my brain. There's a chance it won't work but talk to your doc and just be honest and explain to him. Hes a douche for switching your meds. Good luck though.
