Bud that is not asthetically pleasing - ends up being very potent

Hello ~ inquired some MJ recently, and really I can describe it without the need for a picture.

Color is a greenish-brown. Not particularly "fresh" looking.

I dont see many crystals on the leaves (some) - not an amount you would assosiate with very potent buds.

Quite dry, I know that the wetness has nothing to do with the quality, but i thought i'd mention it.

Moderately potent aroma.

Now I also have bud that has all of the common signs of high quality, nice, green, not too moist, but very fresh, with a potent aroma. Orange hairs, crystals can be seen. This bud is good as well, but the bud first mentioned seems to be stronger. The bud which doesnt stand out is considerably Stronger; enough for the not so amazing looks to overcome my placebo effect of thinking that the Green (#2 bud discussed) would be stronger.

So whats the deal? I dont get the impression it is laced, tastes just fine. Any input would be appreciated.

Also, the "ugly bud" first mentioned, hits you very quickly, in a nice sedating sort of way, where-as the other type takes a bit longer to hit, and has a bit of a sedating/energizing feel to the high.

Its impossible to say what you have but some of the most potent head fucks come from equatorials. These dont hit the street though since its a business mans nightmare. They harvest skippy/spindly and have liike 2 out of 10 bag appeal but blow you outta the water every time. Intellectually stimulating, energizing, electric super potent head fuck.
 
What's the deal? I think you know, you got some ugly bud that is still strong :) I always find smell to be the most reliable indicator of what type of high a bud will provide over appearance. Im a bit jealous, I never find shit like that in the city, only when I used to live in a certain forest area college town with lots of growers. ANyway just enjoy it, no reason to think its laced
 
got some stuff like this before. I remember asking the guy "Where did you get the dead grass?"

I was eating my words just a few minutes later which was hard because I had some hardcore cotton mouth going on.

true that y a l l. stuff is strong, doesnt look strong, thats for sure. Frosty, your post confused me to the fullest extent, but I still think I may know what you mean.

I was always under the impression that potent buds looked potent.
 
from what i heard the african black magic is some of the most powerful herb out there. i have personally never sampled ( a lil young) but ive heard the stories. nasty looking weed. scraggily and black, almost rotten looking. but the high was compared to a mild lsd trip. potent stuff. on another forum we discussed this which led us to believe it has something to do with the cure. a rumor of burying the buds wrapped in banana leaves or such. then digging it up in a month or so? this is not fact just rumor. it would be interesting if anybody here knows anything about this or has heard the rumors? thanks and peace

Burring bud wrapped in a banana in south africa would do the exact opposite of a cure & would produce lots of mold!

Black Magic African

This herb is the strongest ever. Although I have only smoked the Black Magic a very limited number of times, and I've never had more than a joint of my own, I feel it needs mention. I did once get to see a bag of this herb that belonged to someone else. It looked like rotted, black leaf, some leaves intact but crumpled, plus a powdery black shake. It had no particular odor other than sweet spicy moldy hay, and rolled best into thin pinjoints.

The smoke was slightly harsh, but with a very deep, rich flavor. I also recall that it produced lots of white smoke. Anyhow, this stuff was dangerous! I often questioned if it was truly pure herb. I have, however, sampled the same product from different sources at different times, all with the same story.

It was equatorial Black African, the supposed herb of some tribe, Pygmy group, or another equally incredible origin! It was likely an indigenous Central African herb. One pinjoint between three or four people was more than adequate. This was truly the most devastating and consciously inebriating herb I have ever smoked.

I do not recall ever passing out or losing consciousness, but I did have to let go in order to come back . This stuff alone could cause one to reach 3.5 pluses on the Shulgin psychedelic rating scale!

I never was able to acquire seeds from the Black African, though I have tried. It is one of the few indigenous strains that I am interested in working with.

Most modern day stoner's are under the impression resin production = potency & although this may sometimes me true its not always the case. I use resin as the 1# indicator of potency unless i know specifically i've received/stumbled upon a land race; At that points all bets are off.

People tend to tell me im confusing when im talking on a subject they've never learned about or experienced. I find the best way to explain things at that point is visually so i hope these pics help.


This bud looks trashy as hell to me. In actuality it's probably a more potent purple or sativa then what 99% of the lurkers/posters have seen on this site.

That thai to me looks a lil schwaagggy even for thai but being a landrace it could still be more potent then W.W.

Frosty a few pics aren't working, but otherwise good finds, gets your point across a lot clearer

By the way I'd almost be too scared to smoke that thai stick stuff...

EDIT: The pics that didn't work before worked when I just right clicked and hit copy image URL and opened them in their own tab, that highland oaxaca almost doesn't even look like marijuana to me! The "More Columbian:" one looks delicious by these standards!

well truthfully it has had its share of trouble when imported. If you've the chance to smoke a pure thai it is a must; Truly an amazing experience & corner stone/must for any canna-connoisseur to be. Im trying to locate some better but still true thai(n.laos) pics.

Sounds like you got middies and some good nugs. I usually prefer sativa head highs myself, but after smoking the good stuff for awhile and then switch to midgrade you get an intense indica stone (sedating/couch lock) simply because your body is used to the alkaloids in the sativa.

I always found it good to switch up grades of what I smoke so I always end up enjoying the high. Back when I was a heavy user I would smoke sativa's during the day and pack a big bong of middies at night which felt great!

Anyway just my 2 cents from what I experience. On a side note, I noticed that my older friends (31+ yrs old) don't care about good nugs and are happier with the midgrade.. why that is I don't know--they probably are so used to an indica high that sativa's seem "weaker" to them because they don't know how to recognize a good sativa's qualities (my guess).
 
i bought some weed called cheese from a friend and when he gave it to me i got all sad cause it looked like some bammer weed. But i smoked it and it was really strong. And it didnt even really smell like weed.

Why not just smoke high quality sativa's during the day as well as high quality Indica's at night? IMO this is logical.

Because in my neighborhood there is just good haze nugs that have great sativa quality to it. The best I can get for indica is in the form of high quality middies which is much cheaper and preferable at night..unfortunately I can't pick name brand strains since that connection is long gone :| I think I'll start growing when I move into my new duplex, now just to find a good discreet seedbank since I heard emery was having problems
