Hey there,

So I have an older Dell Precision M90 that I use from time to time for heavier stuff (otherwise I normally use a netbook/my phone).

I've been getting an error on start up. I get past every screen up until it says Windows XP and it's loading. Then I get the BSOD with the error:

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

and towards the bottom of it, it says:

STOP: 0x000000ED (0x82FD5900, 0xC000009C, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

so I thought I would just boot from a Windows XP reinstallation CD that I had. And it is a valid CD that I got a few years ago.
I was either going to reformat it, or attempt to repair it in recovery during the set-up. However, the problem that I came across, is after I booted from the optical drive, it begins to load the files, and then when it says "Set Up is starting Windows" I get another BSOD before I can even get to the recovery.

The BSOD says towards the bottom.

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF85390BF, 0xF898A208, 0xF8989f08)

I ran a diagnostic and everything goes fine except for the "READ" portion of the SATA disk. It does the "SEEK" portion just fine. Is there any way to remedy this problem? I've already googled it to shit and can't figure out a solution. I also already reset my BIOS settings to all the defaults in case the problem was that. :(

Get a new HDD...

if you do a scandsk and the READ is fucked.. its like picking up a book and not knowing how to read it. that's what it's doing pretty much..

and HDD are dirt cheap these days anyway
