Over the last couple of years I've been hearing numerous stories about bouncers & their involvment with the xtc scene.
I hear that they have people working for them who sell pills all night long under their watchful eye only as soon as the punters got the pill, the bouncers are right there to take it off him/her.
I even heard that at one particular venue they have someone working for them called 'Pilbo the Clown'. This is so he can be easily seen all dressed up by the bouncer.
When the bouncers count up the money AND the pills at the end of the night they split everything and use the pills at the next event. The person they use only usually gets free rolls but nothing more. I even heard that a group of bouncers were so successful they started making there own pills!
I'm pretty sure this does go on reguarly in the U.K and has been for quite some time but is it widespread in the U.S. or are they 'proffesional and friendly' as often described club flyers (HA! HA!)

The bouncers here ( NY at least )with a very very few exceptions are far from professional. I know some bouncers who bring the drugs in for the dealers, others who confiscate pills & then go out clubbing the next night & re-sell them. Around here they for the most part are big steroid infested ghetto monsters who have no morals, let alone professionalism. Fuck em.

Bouncers pull that shit everywhere, because they can. I worked at a nightclub, they don't pay that well, and slingin's an easy way to take home extra cash. Lots of clubs have "house dealers" who the bouncers don't fuck with, and they generally get any pills the bouncers confiscate throughout the night.
 
It's done here in Florida all the time, especially one particular club (618) formerly known as Paradome. They did it to a friend of mine, took all his pills and left him with 20.00, threw him out and told the police sitting out front of the club that they were not allowed in the club because of a previous problem....another thing I wonder is this is the only club in Jacksonville that hasn't been raided???? And I think it's been open the longest!! Whoknows? I don't go there anyway. So I don't really care

I see alot being in a bar, bouncers first duty is to the bar/venue. I know many bouncers that work raves and afterhours places and yes they do know it goes on, I'm sure some even have guys that work for the establishment but not for them. If they did I'm sure it would be found out and they would be fired.

this happens alot at this joint called 'space' in philly.
i say buy your shit from someone you know and trust and DONT SUPPORT the places you know are shady.
if your shit ever gets taken and you get kicked out and it means alot to you, call the cops. legally, the club employees are supposed to detain you, call the police, and turn all of your shit over. although you might be incriminating yourself, there is no proof of your wrongdoing (it's in the bouncer's pockets!). i dunno.. it's best to avoid such places anyway.

This doesn't exactly answer your question... but the parties I attend usually have off-duty police officers working security. However, their general policy seems to be merely confiscating drugs instead of busting people. I heard that they even let a dealer off the hook at a recent party.
I assume that any confiscated drugs are taken to the police station and destroyed, but who knows?
Also, to address another comment, I know of no legal duty for a private security guard (i.e., not an off-duty cop) to detain someone found with drugs.
 
that happens here in california ALL THE TIME...
i remember at a party back in October a security guard came up to me and asked me if i wanted to buy 2 E's for $10. he said he took them from someone and just wanted to get rid of them. what a jerk!
i've also seen many security guards take drugs from people and do it themselves! always drugged out guards at parties!
 
Damn, the bouncers here in Memphis must be relatively nice. I meen, the only shit I get is for coming in and out of the club, and I'd bet that that is pretty mild. Sucks about everywhere else tho.

i got busted up at Boom in New Hampsire about a month ago... about to pop a couple pills...the bouncer came out of NOWHERE... opened my hand... and grabbed my pills...and he just shook his head at me then walked away...
not knowing if he was going to come back with another bouncer or worse, a cop... we flew out the door before he could...
but he didn't try to detain me at all... anyone know LEGALLY what they're allowed to do?

A Friend of mine is a dealer he goes to this afterhours club and sells his pills and is allowed to. He gives the owner a "kick back" so that the bouncers dont harass him. so he makes his money and the owner pretends he dosent know whats going and everyone else who gets caught selling gets thrown out because the owner isnt getting paid and also it "looks" like that there are "no drugs" in the club sometimes the bouncers will get paid off and the owner doesnt know about it.
personally i think its all a big funny game
example one night we were at this after hours club we had to leave cuz the police were outside so as everyone is leaving my friend is driving and he makes an illegal turn we get pulled over and the cop makes a comment about us coming from an illegal afterhours and all the drugs floating around in there and my friend replies with i just like to go aand listen to the music meanwhile everyone in the car had pills on them and the cops never checked us they wrote us a ticket for illegal turn and sent us on our way my POINT is alot of people just look the other way

When I lived in New York, this is gonna be bad, but thank god for those bouncers! they were so bad and corrupt and when they saw a pretty girl, they never carded me and we popped peoples confiscated drugs... I know thats bad, sorry if I ever did yer shit that was taken away, but hey, its hard to have fun on a students salary without these perks.
 
In SFL, I was at this event (which shall be unnamed, since I enjoyed it a lot) and the bouncers blatantly told everyone to let the girls have the drugs since they did not get searched. The bouncers at said event were not sober as well..I saw several looking pretty cracked out by night's end.

I am not a lawyer, but this is my understanding: any private citizen (including security guards) may detain someone if they catch him/her in the act of committing a crime. This is often called a "citizen's arrest." Note that if you make a citizen's arrest when you're not entitled to, you're asking to get slapped with a false arrest lawsuit. I hear the average award in these cases is something like $50K.
The catch is, security guards are often off-duty police officers. Patrol officers make peanuts, and often take a second job to bring in extra cash. Security work is a popular option for them.
 
I read an article in a recent issue of Details (or was it Spin?) that mentioned a problem in the East Coast rave scene--
thugs who crash parties and clean everybody out. It seems that E plus the whole rave atmosphere turns people into easily-robbed/extorted pushovers. These people can turn a rave into a rout in no time at all. A damn shame.
 
heh, this last year at jujubeats as we were walking in we heard a bouncer say " if you guys want to get your pills in, you gotta hide them better..." pretty much stating that they did a weak search, they didnt even get me...heh, it was pretty funny.

1) spencer: if yer gunna quote someone's music, be it tori amos, or brisk and trixxy, at the very least, GIVE THEM CREDIT!!!
2) in the city that I am from in Central Canada, there is a REALY crooked security company that gets hired out for some parties. I happen to know one of the guards... he pulled me to the side, and showed me an entire picket full of contaband... like, EVERYTHING from a to z. I happen to know for a fact that he actualy USED some of it, and was selling the rest later.
just thought I would share my story.
 
Now, I'm not saying this actually happened to ME cause I wouldn't want to incriminate myself, but I'll say it was me just for the sake of simplicity...
I went to a club a few weeks ago and the guard did a pretty thorough search and asked me what was in my Small pocket where I usually keep some E...I said nothing as I reached in the pocket and moved it to the back of my pants...He pulled me out of line and was WAY COOL...He said he didn't want to be a hard ass and that I should just go back to my car and leave the E there, or take it at the car...I thanked him and hid it better this time...When i walked up to the line again, I told him I was clean. HE smiled and said "well, then I don't need to search you this time". His parting words were "Enjoy your roll"...
Another time, I was popped in the bathroom for being there with a friend while we were injesting a certain liquid...The guard caught us redhanded and I quickly slipped him a $10 bill and asked if there was any problem...He smiled, took the money and said "well, i have to make a show of kicking you out because people are watching..but why don't you come back in in 15 minutes...He didn't search us at all, escorted us outside and whispered something to the door guard who told us to take a walk around the block and come back in 10 minutes. We were let back in 10 minutes later with an admonition to "just be more discrete because we want you to have fun but we don't want to see anything"...
I guess it just depends where you go..but some of the guards in northern cali are pretty cool...

Definately been an occurence here, i know way back when the Asylum was Kaos, in the early days of it, the bouncers used to swipe beans from ravers but not turn em in, then they would sell em back to the raver crowds in return, but as far as i know they got busted. But more then likely this is happenin everywhere, in my opinion its a bad thing, just another thing for the fuzz to use to shut a club down.
