Social Justice Black Lives Matter Discussion Thread

well, aren't they all people of color?

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I think we're discussing different nuances. I'm talking about a specific race being the majority instead of white people versus every other race combined.

well, white people aren't just one big racial group like americans like to think too.
so if you wanna go by that point you should address italians, irish etc. all in their own groups.

Racial minorities can stay in political power for a long time and fuck things up, study the history of other nations.

It wouldn't help me sleep better at night.
yes, barbarians and rome.
i bet there was some degenerates celebrating that too, thinking it will be rainbows and happiness.
in fact, it was nothing but the death of western civilization for years.

Yeah, the insane nuances of it all is dizzying. There's obviously the complexity of trying to accurately define, for what purposes those definitions are relevant, and also time period.

I think the most simplistic way I think of it in terms of race is "a mixture of physical, behavioral and cultural attributes".

The way we categorize currently is far from perfect.

With that said, is anything we do in reality, perfect?

Illinois college football coach leaves 'All Lives Matter' note, quits team

By Ryan Gaydos Published 15 hours ago Il FOX News

An Illinois State football coach abruptly quit the team Thursday, leaving a note on the door while exiting the facility.

Kurt Beathard, who was the Redbirds’ offensive coordinator, told The Pantagraph he left a note that said “All Lives Matter to Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ” before he left. Officials told the newspaper Wednesday he was no longer a part of the team and declined to comment on why he abruptly left.

His departure apparently followed an incident involving a “Black Lives Matter” poster in the locker room. Sources told The Pantagraph that the poster was taken down from the Illinois State locker room in the school’s football building. Beathard denied any involvement in the locker room saying that someone put a sign on his door and that he took that down.

“That locker room crap is wrong. I took the sign down somebody put on my door. That’s it,” Beathard told the newspaper. “I didn’t take anything off that wasn’t put on my door. I wrote the message.”

Beathard’s departure came weeks after players had an issue with athletic director Larry Lyons using the phrase “All Redbird Lives Matter” in a video conference, according to the newspaper. Some student-athletes boycotted workouts because of it and a march supporting Black voices was held.

Beathard returned to Illinois State in 2018 – his third stint with the program. He’s spent 15 years as a coordinator in the FCS. He played in the USFL and Arena Football League.

His nephew, C.J. Beathard, is a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.

sounds like the coach is soft to me, crying like a whittle baby, quitting and wunning away.

Yea, if I could retract everything from this so-called "society", and go somewhere else, I would. I fucking hate this place and this ideology, or these Marxist ideologies that are being pushed. Fuck Black Lives Matter, Fuck Antifa, Fuck the ADL, Fuck "Chris" Wallace, fuck their terms, fuck their language (white people giving birth to white children is white supremacy). I honestly would love to just recycle all of their parts/materials, maybe feed it to some farm animals or some better people. Fuck them all. I hate them.

The article (I read it, after an annoying survey) and what was relayed on the radio this morning, aren't clear on if he quit or was fired, despite the linked headline. What's a shame is the players take offense to "All lives matter to our Lord Jesus Christ", and yet think to imagine "Black Lives Matter" can't be taken as offensive. Double standard, whereas anyone taking offense by either statement is choosing to do so, neither is offensive at a basic level, it is up to the individual on how they take the statement or disregard it.

It's highly offensive to me.

neither is offensive at a basic level
The whole notion of god is offensive and gross and disgusting to me as an atheist.

Your life does or doesn't matter, it has nothing to do with fake belief systems.

It's highly offensive to me.

Oddly enough, it's very irritating to me as well. Whatever my own religious beliefs, I don't feel anyone should subject others to their religious views. If I go to your church/synagogue/temple, then I am seeking out exposure to your views. Otherwise, you are putting them in my face unsolicited, and often in a situation where it is irrelevant (really, what's God got to do with football?).

By that same token, however, I find BLM offensive; put in the public face unsolicited, and often in a situation where it is irrelevant. Does it have merit? Yes, in some situations, but wholesale across any and every social situation? I think not, and would prefer it be kept out of places it doesn't belong (ie, sports).

But yeah, anyone brings religion into a discussion, I immediately tune out. I can respect your right to your beliefs, but don't push them on me.

BLM isn't a church. It does lack a cohesive logical argument about why (any) life matters, because meaning of life philosophy has been debated a long time (and a blanket statement like "black lives matter" without any premises is simply not an argument and it is not convincing).

It does lack a cohesive logical argument about why (any) life matters, because meaning of life philosophy has been debated a long time

I think that is outside the scope of what BLM can possibly realistically encompass.

But this brings up an interesting issue:

From this perspective, BLM inherently assumes all lives matter, simply put, but black lives currently do not matter as much (hence the Black Lives Matter, Too)

Why don't they just call it that then?

BLMT sounds better and the acronym looks like a sandwich sandwich so I'm instantly intrigued

So with all the calls for Trump to condemn Proud Boys....anyone care to explain this head scratcher?

Utah BLM and Proud Boys Leaders Give Joint Press Announcement Explaining What They Have ‘In Common’

...
Nonetheless, the Proud Boys have anything but a sterling reputation. They are recognized as an extremist group by the FBI and as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. They have been seen publicly engaging in skirmishes with demonstrators at Black Lives Matter protests, notably clashing with ANTIFA, a left wing group that has been known to get into conflicts with right wing activists and have also been accused of violence.

Although a number of members are nonwhite, many Proud Boys have been spotted at white supremacist events, and a former member, Jason Kessler, was the organizer of the Charlottesville, Va., “Unite The Right” rally in 2017, which descended into violence and killed one person.

Kelly said the Proud Boys she’s met with are not white supremacists, and considers them “proud American men” who needed “a little bit of respect and education in order to bridge gaps.”

“Seth,” who pointed out that he is not a supporter of Donald Trump, said at the press appearance that he has learned more about BLM and what their experience has been in his conversations with Kelly. “Meeting and talking and having that understanding has allowed us to move forward with working together on police reform,” he said. “We understood there is some much needed police reform so we found common ground.”

Both agreed that the mainstream media has perpetuated false narratives about the Proud Boys and BLM that have caused division between the two groups.
