Social Justice Black Lives Matter Discussion Thread

well since after the verdict people have been protesting, caught a few things on fire near the court house, and since the mayor issued a state of emergency there was a 9pm curfew, so everyone kind of cleared up then. a police officer was shot tho, and from what i gather they wern't killed.
i showed up to work around 11:30pm and there were police all over the place, i do have a piece of paper from my boss stating that i am an essential worker so incase i were to get stopped.
the building has been on shelter in place, meaning that no one really comes or goes, and pretty much what that means on 3rd shift is no one can come in to check into the detox facility.
had an issue about an hour or so ago, guy that wanted to come in became aggressive and violent towards me because i wouldn't let him in. he started to use the 'its because i am black' card which is really fucked up. so yeah, this isn't the first time i've experienced this. seems like whenever i tell someone no, or for them to try back later, they assume it is because of the color of their skin.

so yea, just hope it wont get bad.
Please stay safe!

why are no knock warrants even a thing? just fucking announce they are a the police and kick the door down either way that door is getting kicked down at least the person knows its not some mad men coming to invade their house. The cops were also plainscloth wtf thats stupid.

wait a second... the cops were ambushed? 🤦🏼‍♂️
do you know literally anything about this case?

Breonna Taylor and her boyfriend are the two that were ambushed, not the cops. They issued a no knock warrant on two people who were sleeping . The warrant wasn't because they were directly implicated in a crime.

Don't know what you call it but running into a place and getting shot at is an ambush in my vocabulary .
Doesn't sound like they were in a neighborhood where people vouched for police. Police are trained to identify themselves, if they busted my neighbors door while I slept i wouldn't wake until gunshots. So their neighbors hearing nothing means nothing. I highly doubt professionals went in there as a group to murder people.
Charges will be made to stop a riot

The are retweeting stuff like this. Marching up and down the streets last night saying the mayor cannot stop the reform. Well....they can have it, im out.

you don't think there are any right wingers looking to instigate something? Not one huh.
there are people who care about the cause and there are people who want to be naughty in the streets.
both sides. *trump gesture* both sides.

Thank you for a good morning laugh :) :ROFLMAO:

If you are asleep when they kick in the door you probably won't hear them announce.

Nobody is going to reply to the fact that the BLM chicago leader is retweeting the idea of killing whites to overrun them. I know countless black friends that have grown up in poverty, foster care, etc and did the right thing and have good careers. Sorry if um...never took advantage of the fact you were born here. Your life of fast money has now come to a halt.

They also have a funny idea. Like their gang of dirt bikes, bb guns, and 9mm that shoot at a 45 degree angle (lol) would even do anything. Shit didn't hit the fan yet. Trump is too much of a pussy to do anything drastic.

And if they are telling the mayor reform is coming, they are against the left.

Lastly, cops do suck. Crooked as can be.

And what you do when you don't like where you live is simply move. Trying to think they can overthrow only shows what pea brains they are.

Well, I can see how that can be problematic. I see it more as symbolism, especially considering the caption is "How do you reform a plantation?" But, I'm not going to deny with the current atmosphere that could have some problematic undertones that could be interpreted as you suggested.

That may be the intent though, not to actually kill white people, but that they want to let everyone know to not be comfortable until desperately needed change is made.

I agree. Fear is a great tactic. But a war tactic. This has now crossed over to terrorism. I mean getting a HUGE group of people and threatening the mayor that she cannot. Ok, what you gonna do? Again they are silly to think they will do anything but cause trouble and costs lives. Mainly their own.

She broke up with the guy because he was into bad stuff. I’m surprised that anyone that stands behind the 2nd amendment had a problem with these people defending themselves against armed intruders.

I really haven't been following closely but have the "right wingers" been burning police stations, town/city Halls, private business, etc.?

Patriot Coalition: Leaked Messages Show Far-Right Group's Plans for Portland Violence

The summer of 2020 has seen the city of Portland, Oregon, become a symbol and a venue for the further, dramatic polarization of the United States. More than a hundred nights of intense protests against police violence by left-wing activists have led to further police violence in response, and to President Donald Trump declaring the city a “beehive of terrorists” and an “anarchist jurisdiction.” A great deal of reporting has been dedicated to the city’s leftist protesters. Less national attention has been focused on those who perceive the protesters as their enemies: a network of “Patriot” militias and extremist groups, who have in recent weeks been staging violent confrontations in Portland’s downtown streets.

Bellingcat has acquired several months of chat logs from the Patriot Coalition of Oregon, a network of pro-Trump, pro-police activists. These chat logs were provided by an infiltrator affiliated with the antifascist collective Eugene Antifa. We were also given login information for the infiltrator’s account on GroupMe, a secure messaging app owned by Microsoft. This allowed us to directly observe the group’s communications, to verify the information provided to us and to export a log of those chats directly from the application. (Many posts contain spelling and grammatical errors, which we have not altered.)

These logs provide an intimate look inside a growing insurgent network, and shed new light on episodes of armed conflict which are already on the public record. Topics of conversation include plans for violence in the streets of Portland, celebration of acts of thuggery and even discussions about harming elected leaders and journalists. More than anything, the chats catalog the rapid radicalization of Patriot Coalition’s membership, many of whom express a willingness to kill their perceived left-wing enemies.
...
A user identified as Paige summed up the general feelings of the group in a post made ahead of a what turned out to be a bloody ‘Back the Blue’ rally on August 22nd in Portland when she wrote: “I’m waiting for the presidential go to start open firing.”
...
A user identified as Punisher95 responds by advocating “nightly raids” by Patriot Coalition members dressed in black. He suggests that this will allow them to attack the press and make “Antifa” appear to be the culprits.

How do we know the user "punisher95" is actually one of the right wingers and not just an antifa associate or even the journalist looking for a couple hits on their story.

I guess what I'm getting at is, where is it happening irl? Not just internet words
