I was looking into this for a while but decided that I didn't want to trade in my "bomber high gas millage 4 cylinder nissan truck" for an old mercedes with 300,000 miles. IE you have to run biodiesel through a diesel engine.
I think the biggest potential problem with bio-fuels is the issue of feed-stock. There is NO WAY we can replace petrol with land crops...where will we grow food?
Algae farms are an interesting alternative, so is wind and solar (we would need electric engines for these though). Conservation and Armageddon might figure into the final solution as well :D
