since winter is coming, i want to avoid the extra weight that the annual "stuffing my face" activities tend to produce. i'm a broke-ass college student with a child so needless to say, i have NO spare money (saving up isn't really an option) to purchase a gym membership or the equipment to do what i need to at home. i just want a few ideas on what i can do to lose weight and maintain the weight loss without having to spend a lot of money. i'm not exactly sure it can be done but i'm willing to do what i can.

my only problem is that i'm severely asthmatic so running or even jogging is out of the question. i can swim but do not have access to a pool. i do powerwalk but it takes twice the amount of time and work to lose the same amount of weight that jogging/running would. i'm a bit pissed that i can't run but there's nothing i can do, unfortunately.

i've thought about using household things (gallons of milk, sacks of potatos) to use as weights (haha :() for weight training (to build lean muscle mass and lose fat) but i'm not sure how efficient that would be.

any help would be great :)

Getting your Omegas 3,6 & 9.

Cranberry Juice is great, it flushes the system because of its acidity and I am not sure how but helps in weight loss.

LOTS of B complex vitamines. B vitamins are essential to the breakdown of fats into energy.

Vitamins A and E- linked with hormone balance and depression also necessary to heal your body.

YOGA!!!!! Vinyasa is a easy beginner friendly yoga. AND if you have a Corepower Yoga near you it is only 7 dollars including a rented mat.

Drink Lots of water.

Tulsi or Holy Basil- expensive (not at bulknutrition.com) increases stamina and breaks down cortisol that is linked with belly fat.

Aloe Vera Juice- Cleans out that COLON! woo! And it may help your asthma.

Cut all gluten out of your diet! ie Grains.

If you do 20 pushups and situps a day it will help more than you think, just get up off your ass and do it!!

Yogurt!

Instead of milk drink soy milk.

Eat lots and lots of brightly colored veggies cooked in olive oil.

Switching to tea instead of coffee helps tons. Teas have great flavanoids that help your heart, blood pressure, and linked to helping feel all around "good" inside.

Cut out all the white stuff from your diet ...white bread, refined sugar, pasta etc.
Vegetables, lean protein and water are your best friend :)
Just cutting out bad carbohydrates from my diet helped me lose weight FAST

Quite seriously, lose interest in food. Most people eat way more than they need... good way to do it is to stop buying tasty stuff and start buying reasonably nutritious but nasty-@ss food such as Banquet frozen dinners, and supplement with vitamins.

And since this is a drug board, WTF... start doing stimulants part time. Even light use would probably cut back on most people's appetites, or a lightcore stimulant such as bupropion. IME opiates can also reduce appetite, but at the required levels tend to cause addiction. I've also found kratom to be quite helpful, once again at the cost of addiction (but easier to quit than opiates).

Are push-ups an option? They work quite a few muscle groups. Pull-ups are good as well, and you can do one-legged squats with your bodyweight. That would cover most things.

i do light physical exercise (sit-ups, squats, push-ups) every morning when i wake up, before i eat breakfast, i just can't do really strenuous physical activity or my airways close up :(

MDPV - no stims for me, i have been clean from meth for 4.5 yrs now, i'm not going back to that shit. weighing 80 lbs was nice but i wasn't healthy nor did i look healthy. actually, i'd prefer to stay away from any drug to lose weight.

i'm not a veggie fan, i like fruit more and i eat a lot of it. i'm also a carb-whore (i love pasta, cereal, fruit, sammiches) so cutting them out will be hard. i could reduce my intake to say 20% of my diet but i'll have to work my way down. i always drink tons of water (about 1 gallon a day) and i don't drink anything with caffeine so no soda, coffee, caffeinated teas and i rarely drink juices (waaaay too much sugar).

my main problem is that i live at home with my mom, brother, sister and my baby. whenever i buy fresh food or food for myself and my child it A) gets eaten by someone else, B) gets shoved into the cupboard and i can never manage to find it or C) goes bad because there's no room in the fridge for it so it gets left out or it gets crammed into a drawer and is damaged or unedible. this happens with a lot of my fresh fruit and veggies. second major problem: my mom is a junkfood eater. she rarely eats meals but she'll sit down every night and munch on chips, candy, crackers, etc. her 1 meal/day consists of a can of refried beans with melted cheese, salsa and tortilla chips. people think i'm joking when i say my house has nothing but junkfood in it but i'm not, my cupboards are packed with crap. so, i asked for a designated space to put my food, and i was told "it's my house, if you don't like it, leave." i should take a picture of the cupboard.

anyway, maintaining my diet is the hardest part because of the above reasons. exercising is doable and i can remain consistent if i set up a designated time for it but what's the point if i'm eating nothing but crap? yes, i do have a choice, i could not eat it but then that means i'd have to go out and buy food and that's something i can't afford to do all the time. i'm barely living off of what i make now :\ i can't starve myself either, i burn a lot of energy throughout the day.

thanks for all of the suggestions, they're great so far.

There's that new fat blocker Alli. I've read of people getting good results with it, but I think most of them were following this whole Alli diet and exercise plan so...

Yack! Didn't know you'd been addicted to meth... sorry for suggesting it. You're right, for people with that tendency it's not exactly "the" way to lose weight :!.

  • My gym membership costs $10.60/month.
  • If you like the carbs as so I, stick to whole grain only. Cut out the white stuff completely.
  • Avoid products with high fructose corn syrup. It will only leave you hungry.
  • Avoid supplement like Alli. You don't need them. Make sure you are getting enough calcium, omega 3, and 6.
  • Rent exercise DVD/videos from your library. Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing suggested.
  • Look for a used equipment sports store for weights or bands. Keep an eye out in the paper or internet of tag sales with cheap exercise equipment you may like. If you lived closer you could have my free weights and extra yoga mat :)
  • Push ups and squats are an excellent choice. Pull ups at the park on the monkey bars. Keep it going.
  • Play/walk with your daughter. Dance. There are children's exercise videos too.

I have seen your photos and you look great for someone who has a baby. Maintain that.

^ you must have one hell of a gym because the gyms around here are 25 a month minimum unless you're signing up for 3+ years. i wish gyms existed without contracts.

I have a 12 month contract. The first year it was $21.18. That included tanning. we did not use that and we also said that we would take our business elsewhere. Hence, the rate reduction.

If you ever need a medical excuse to get out of a contract, I am you girl. I got my husband out of his Bally's to the death contract. Benign positional vertigo was his claimed diagnosis.

In other words, it makes him dizzy to stand on his head? =D Hell, you'd make a great lawyer... go hit the books! ;)

I coudn't get out of my Bally's contract for the life of me, and I had to end up basically giving them my first born child. I ended up settling for $1200. Thats a lot to pay to NOT work out at their gym!

^lol. Tsk tsk..........you will eat your words when you realize you're a 300 lb couch potato who needs to wash with a rag on a stick ;)

eat less. stop before feeling full.
drink lots of water.
walk.
cut out carbs almost completely. this one is incredibly effective. Not touching bread/pasta and compensating with lean protein and vegetables will reduce fat fast as fuck.

I the end I think it all comes down to how much you eat, not "what". You can stay lean even hitting the pasta everyonce in a while, you just have to eat much less than you think you need.

Before anything else, don't eat past 7 in the evening, AND definitely do not eat less than 2 hours before sleeping. You'll be surprised-- you won't get morning breath like most people do, and you'll have an easier time getting up! And also take a lot of tea and hot water during the winter.

Also, I'm not sure how winter affects the leafy green situation, but seriously, getting that stuff in is very important. I usually eat a meal of about 70-80% veggies and 20% carbs, because it feels best for me. And not carby veggies but roughage. I never gain weight if I eat this way.

Cutting out white rice or even bread is not something I would do, but basically I just try to eat way more vegetables than rice anyway. It's all about balance. Some rice, bread (not the usual grocery bread with 10,000 ingredients), or pasta won't hurt, just as long as you have a lot of fiber to help it along your digestive system and prevent it from getting gunky in your body. Combining raw food (salad) with bread and pasta doesn't work so well for me, but I love cooked veggies (Asian :D).

I am still constantly amazed at the junkyness of the American cupboard. In fact, I was just telling a friend how depressing it was seeing my grandparents eat convenience food, as back home they cooked every meal. The best thing you can do for yourself really is start cooking and getting fresh stuff! It's like an instant +10 quality of life points and it can be cheaper too, especially if you focus on vegetables. Do you live near a market? If there's no space in the fridge you can make it part of your routine to walk by and buy something to cook everyday.

I think the most important thing is to listen to your body. Most "diets" are too one-size-fits-all. After years of experimenting, I know I do best (and my mind is clearest) on some rice and mostly fibrous cooked, easy-to-digest vegetables. I don't like broccoli and a lot of Western vegetables, and I also don't like "fiber bomb" hippy food like raw "cookies" made of barley and germ and nuts, but it took me awhile to realize that I don't feel the best when I eat these stereotypically healthy vegetarian things.

First thing you should do is cut out all the artificial stuff, like coloring, chemicals, hydrogenated shit, and white sugar (most of the time). Those are the only rules i think should be universal to any diet. On top of that, don't eat too much!

^Amen!
To borrow dtergents line..
