Best Opening Scene

I also gotta mention the first few minutes of Contact.

I've seen this movie several times, but I can't recall how it starts? It doesn't start with her as a little girl does it?

For comedies, I always liked the dance number at the beginning of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.

Good thread, btw.

it's a load of cheesy nonsense but the opening scene of cliffhanger has me on the edge of my seat anytime i see it.

I dunno about the cheesy bit but Cliffhanger is definitely up there along with kill Bill in my best evers.

The opening scene of A Clockwork Orange is particularly memorable. The slow panning out of the camera, the music....excellent.

no.

the awesome fx shot zooming away from the earth faster than light and all the radio frequencies as it gets further and further away

id have to vote casino royale too... just obscenely fun to see

I almost forgot:

Trainspotting!

great opening.

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed- interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit- crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that?

I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who need reasons when you've got heroin?

Maybe you had to have been their in the 70's, but to me it has to be the opening scene in "Star Wars." You see this little ship rocket by and the the Empire ship slowly rolls into the screen and just keeps getting bigger and bigger. There had been nothing like that till then.

Also, the first 10-15 minutes of "Saving Private Ryan" still pretty amazing.

Summer Of Sam

Great film. Opening is a murder scene. Spike Lee film that also had alot of influence in production and writing by Michael Imperioli. See this movie.

ohhhhhhhh yeah! Pennywise you know how much I love this movie too <3

the first time i saw that movie i was stoned nice and toasty-like and I wasn't expecting it at all. Then all of a sudden BLAM BLAM BLAM the .45 goes off and theres blood everywhere and the music comes up....and I was all like dayum nucca that just blew my mind.

just watch it!

edit: IMDB LINK

Mira Sorvino, Adrien Brody, John Leguizamo, written by Michael Imperioli (of Sopranos fame), directed by Spike Lee.

It's a winner.

the first 10 minutes or so of Dawn of the Dead (the remake). if I start watching it, I just can't stop til the whole movie is over.

The opening sequence of Shaun of the Dead. And then the movie that follows.

Lets leave parody to the British in future thanks guys ;)

Tarantino's 'From Dusk til Dawn' has without doubt my favorite opening scene ever.

Saving Private Ryan...

Watched the d-day landing on the beaches in other movies, but when the hatch opens and they all get shot I immediately knew this was a movie on a whole other level then the previous war films I watched.

I have to say the scene from Goldeneye when he jumps off the cliff, flies through the air, and gets into the falling plane was pretty cool in a ridiculous sort of way.

Oh, Goldeneye. I think I've watched that opening sequence about 40 times.

I used to be obsessed with the N64 game, and it inspired me to watch Goldeneye until I knew the plot backwards.
