Best method for housebreaking a puppy

I'd like to get him to respond to "drain the main vein"
But I don't think that's going to happen.

Hahahaha :D
Man, with consistency and time, you can get your dog to respond to anything ;)

I concur. Maybe start off with telling him "drain," or "main." Then when he's older, you can say "drain the main vein," and he'll do it.

So, if you find a puddle or a poop inside after she's done it, just clean it up adequately and act as if it didn't happen. Make sure you clean it with an appropriate cleaning product so that she won't be tempted to go back to that same spot to do it again (don't use ammonia-based products because to them it smells like urine!).

I've often heard this and therefore never scolded my dogs if I didn't catch them in the act. However, I found if I was walking toward the area (even clearly hours after the fact) they would hamper down, look sheepish and slink away. Maybe it was always more recent than I think but I highly doubt it. Weird.

I have noticed that, too--With my dog when she was a puppy but more recently with my older dog who's been having accidents in the house d/t some medication she's on. I think it's more that dogs can read our body language, though I'm not totally convinced they can't make a connection between the scolding and the accident--After all, I'm sure they know it's their urine, and esp. with older dogs, they know they're not supposed to go in the house. *Shrug* Either way, I don't scold my older dog for peein' in the house as I know it's really not her fault and she doesn't do it on purpose.

tada, picture update :)

Hahaha awesome! Yep, just like that :D <3
My dog is great to rough-house with, even though he's only little. He's a Jack Russell x Staffy so he's like a big dog trapped in a little dog's body, and loves a good rough-housing =D
