Best Laxatives for Opiate Use: Oxycodone / Methadone

Currently taking Oxycodone and it makes me horribly constipated. I'm due to change to methadone soon, so I really need to find a laxative that will help prevent constipation.

Drives me crazy. Need something that is safe for long-term chronic use.

Im partial to the emollient laxatives (stool softeners) like docusate at 100mg two to three times a day but this often is inadequate. In those instances, I take a stool softener dose, wait several hours and use Miralax, an osmotic laxative. When all else fails, do the stool softener, wait few hours and then its enema time. Thankfully, Ive never had to go that far but it surely is effective.

There is of course the rx product, Relistor (methylnaltrexone) but it is an injection and very costly.

Bisacodyl.

Bisacodyl should only be used for a short time. This is because your bowel can start to rely on this type of laxative to make it work rather than working on its own. If you are still constipated after taking bisacodyl for five days, you should speak with your doctor.

I need something that I can use chronically.

What about lactulose?

Prune juice!

Ive tried all kinds of laxatives and nothing worked, had to use enemas frequently until i discovered that magic juice.

A glass full a day and i poop like a normal person, try it!!

You don't want to get into the habit of using laxatives every day when a stool softener will do the trick. Colace always worked for me or the generic drug store brand is just as good and cheaper. Don't forget to drink enough water especially when starting methadone.

Rybee, everything I said, save the enema, can be used relatively long term. Lactulose would also be a good option and safe for chronic administration.

Although it's not necessarily the best or most effective remedy... you can try supplementing with magnesium citrate if you already don't. Kills two birds in one stone, keeps your stool soft and you get your daily allowance of magnesium all in one package, not to mention it's safe to take daily. I also use docusate sodium on top of that if need be, but honestly that's hardly needed. Not sure if docusate is OTC though, as mine was given to me by my doctor. Increasing your fiber intake won't hurt either.

Kratom instead of Oxy here. Dulcolax is fucking expensive but it works for me - not flawlessly, but it turns what would otherwise be a nightmare back into standard constipation.

I'm talking about the stool softener though, not the laxative one. They come in gel caps and you take three a day. There are a handful of stool softeners that unlike laxatives you can take on a daily basis.

Then just change up your diet (I eat a lot of oatmeal and cream of wheat now) and drink at least 3 bottles of water a day. Should be tolerable at that point.

I use this herbal tea called Smooth Move. I swear to god it works better than the OTC laxatives and it doesn't give you the cramping they do. I can find it at abut any supermarket here in the US
