Hey all you Bupe bluelighters!
I’ve been in recovery for almost six years from heroin and crack, and during that time, I’ve been on Buprenorphine (generic since Subutex brand has been off the market for eons) maintenance. At one point, I switched to the Sublocade shot, which I preferred because to dissolving the nasty pills, as I felt like a normal person and less like an addict. Unfortunately, my psychiatrist, who I’ve been with throughout my recovery, no longer has a nurse to administer the injections properly. This led to painful lumps each month as my provider just is not herself experienced enough in injections since she always had someone else administer them, and at this point I am not going to switch providers due to the difficulty of finding a competent, stable psychiatrist in my area.
For most of my maintenance, I’ve been using the orange oval 153 Actavis brand (formerly Teva). However, a few months ago I weirdly developed a strong aversion to the taste, like I was avoiding them waiting so long to take them that it began affecting me, so I switched to the round white 54/11 pills by Hikma Pharmaceuticals. While the taste is much less putrid, I’ve noticed they aren’t as effective, especially in managing my chronic pain from an autoimmune disease.
Does anyone know of an alternative generic brand that’s closer to the original Subutex in efficacy and has a more tolerable taste? The biggest issues I’m facing are taste and effectiveness. It’s frustrating that I can no longer tolerate the Actavis brand after so long.
I wish there were a generic version of Subzolve without naloxone. I first started bupe at 17, and now at 40, I’ve been on and off it for 23 years. The first time I took bupe, I became violently ill and after just a few days was switched over to Subutex, which thankfully didn’t make me vomit.
Years later, after my OxyContin addiction developed into heroin addiction - common story I would guess 90% of people in my age range who have heroin addictions can relate to, another doctor put me on Suboxone, and I had the same vomiting experience. Eventually, they put 2 + 2 together and figured out that I have a sensitivity to naloxone. Despite what’s touted to be true , I believe naloxone in Suboxone is merely a scare tactic as a deterrent, as it doesn’t cause precipitated withdrawal any more or less than Subutex, no matter the route of administration.
I know there are many generic manufacturers of 8mg Buprenorphine tablets, but despite spending a significant amount of time rigorously researching and scouring the interweb, I have yet to find a single study/comparison/chart etc of any kind that shows the percentage of active ingredient from generic brand to brand, or even personal opinions from in vivo experience on here, so I’m just left guessing or using trial and error.
If anyone can help me out, I would be eternally grateful! Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy post. Take care and be safe all.
