I'm curious if anyone is prescribed Adderall to help with depression and if so what was the dosage that worked for you? I know it has to be individually adjusted but a lot of times asking around helps you get an idea of an average, I've done this for many meds I've taken.

There isn't a lot of utility in this thread.

Adderall is a S-II stimulant that is indicated for ADHD, and has likewise therapeutic ability to fight narcolepsy. It was used for depression for about 50 years, before the system finally recognized that it rarely has that effect.

Some people are given stimulants for depression as an adjunct, emphasize on some.

Over time, the substance can lead to some gnarly agitation and generally a reactive mindstate.

Doses range. 5mg-60mg is considered safe for the requisite population.

Other sites offer information on low, middle, and high doses. We don't really, as they vary on the person and these are sensitive chemicals to talk about. Some people feel nothing but able to concentrate at 15mg, while others may feel way too stimulated at that dose.

Open for the time-being. Likely will close after the OP answers.

Yes, mostly all of those patients are people that haven't responded to the usual medicines, most of those are treatment resistant. It's a highly effective add-on if used as prescribed, way less side-effects than what's usually given....mostly stigmatized by the media and others is the reason it's not prescribed, not because it's been proven ineffective.

Yeah but there's a small army of medications to try before thinking of a stimulant.

Not by my knowledge is it "highly effective". In fact it continues to be prescribed a lot in the states despite literature discouraging its frequency of prescription.

people with treatment resistant depression have tried way more than a small army of meds lol, i'd guess an average of 10 years of failed medications for my trd patients...only way to know if it's effective is to go through it yourself and respond to it, there are no credible studies, nothing has been proven....it definitely hasn't been proven to be ineffective......as far as frequency of it being prescribed, there is no doubt there are way to many doctors prescribing it to anyone just to make money, it's probably why it's so stigmatized.
