Okay a long time ago I went to the my family Dr. with my mom to get something Prescribed for sleep but at the time he could not give me anything because I was not 18 yet which I am now. The problem is my mom told my Dr. that I smoke Cannabis Buds because she is an extremely unintelligent individual. But because of this my Dr. will obviously not prescribe me anything for sleep especially Benzos because he probably thinks I would abuse it.

My question is how else can I get a prescription for this because it is a VERY CLEAR FACT that I URGENTLY need something I have been getting anywhere from no sleep to a maximum of 6 hours per night for 2 SOLID YEARS it has been now. Things have got like as bad as they can get now but I do not know what to do maybe go to a walk-in-clinic?

Benzos are better for anxiety than for sleep. They also aren't a long term solution and not anything you want to get mixed up in if you can help it.

I'm surprised your doctor won't consider anything else though. There are other hypnotics which he could at least recommend and which aren't prone to abuse.

Before mentioning OTC aids I'll say that practically anything you take you can form a tolerance to and even more likely will cause rebound insomnia. Your first steps should be sleep hygiene. That is: don't be in your room (especially your bed) unless ready to sleep; try and rise and bed down at the same time even if you can't sleep; try and sleep regular hours (i.e. when it's dark out); don't use any bright laptop screens or TVs before going to bed as the light makes your body think it is day; etc. etc. etc. Furthermore eat healthy, no caffeine or alcohol, and the biggest one is exercise. An hour a day will have you dropping like a rock every evening.

Okay then if your doc won't perscribe anything to you and your lifestyle adaptations don't improve anything, there are some things you can take. Diphenhydramine, the active ingredient in Benedryl, is a sedating hypnotic antihistamine. Not a good idea to get used to if you have allergies but one of these when I can't sleep knocks me out. Another more natural idea is to take melatonin supplements in the evening. It's a sleep hormone that is naturally produced by your body to indicate you are tired and therefore makes you tired. Both of these (especially the melatonin) you want to try and take breaks from. Think of them as the way to get into a good sleep schedule as opposed to a permanent solution.

Hope this helps some. I'd encourage you to bring up these non-abusable options with your doctor and say that you are considering them to show that you aren't just interested in getting high.

Best of luck!

I know Benzos are not something you want to take frequently I use them once in awhile when I can find someone I know to buy off of. I got a lot of anxiety and I find taking a Benzo to help me sleep at least ONCE IN AWHILE is better than NOT SLEEPING at all like I have for 2 SOLID YEARS. I have also been using Tpin which has Melatonin in it and I am very physically active nothing helps except forcing my Central Nervous System to be depressed with drugs.

I don't think you should go to a clinic, once you start doing that you'll be clinic hopping in no time. I'd recommend talking to your doctor about your insomnia anyway, if it really is that detrimental to your health, the doctor will do something about it. If you're trying to scam him into giving you benzos, stop. Insomnia is a big issue, plenty of people suffer from it. But if you PUSH for benzos, its pretty obvious and you'll probably get busted and you sure as shit won't be getting anything then.

There are also a ton of other options for insomnia treatment. If you feel you need to 'knock yourself out' you might be asked to try trazodone, remeron, and other less abusable options. These will help you sleep, but come with a bunch of unwanted side effects.

We can't advise you as to what to say to your doctor or how to otherwise acquire prescription drugs as it is against site guidelines so please avoid that line of discussion. You seem fairly knowledgeable of your situation so if your mind is set on getting benzos then we can't help you. We can still recommend other treatment options and how to deal with insomnia from a drug based perspective though if you are interested.

There are lots of things that doctors can prescribe for sleep; of these, benzos are some of the most dangerous and addictive. Therefore - and I think most people here would second this - if you can by any means avoid using benzos it will be for the better.

There are loads and loads of herbal concoctions available; some are weaker, like camomile tea, some are much much stronger, like maybe valerian root. But there are dozens that I can't recall that you can get anywhere and are very strong.

The problem with benzos, as someone pointed out, is that although they probably would help you to sleep, they would achieve this indirectly; viz., most of them are not strictly hypnotics, but work instead on relieving anxiety, producing contentment and relaxing muscles. This is why they are such a risk, because they don't just put you out but actually make you feel very nice and fuzzy and happy. It's not legitimate in my opinion to use them just for sleep; they should be saved for people with genuine and debilitating anxiety disorders and even then used as a last option. People who can't sleep should first try herbal stuff and exercise, then maybe anti-histamines like diphenhydramine, or even anti-psychotics or anti-depressants, many of which have sedating side-effects.

I had a LONG-term valium and xanax addiction and it set me back in so many ways. Don't do it.

Not you again in my thread.... As I already stated I am taking Herbal supplements Tpin and Valerian Root is among one of the MANY I take that manages my misery and hell I go through daily to be just enough not to take do any regretful actions in my life. Also like I said I am VERY physically active if you do not believe I can upload some pics lol. If I uploaded some pictures it would also show how HORRIBLE I LOOK and I FEEEL like the god damn grim reaper in more ways than one. Once again like I have already stated I have SEVERE Anxiety I have finally got it under control to the point I do not feel the urge of ripping my hair out anymore but I still can not seem to get to sleep at ALL and it has been this way for 2 SOLID YEARS NOT even exaggerating the tiniest bit I got black bags around my eyes that look exactly like the guys from the fight club. But my insomnia is caused by mostly Anxiety and Adrenaline from my problems in life that just seem impossible to fix. Right now I am using Opiates to help me sleeep but I am at the end of my binge and do not want to get addicted and I try to limit my use to once a month. I also smoke Cannabis Buds daily to help me sleep which worked great at first until I developed a tolerance now only way it would work is if I became rich or had a place of my own to grow sooo I can could use edilbes to medicate myself all through the night every night. I figured getting a Prescription for Benzos to use once in awhile to help me get to sleep ONCE IN AWHILE compared TO STRAIGHT UP NOT SLEEPING AT ALL is better than nothing and it would also be better than haveing go waste my own money on friends scripts. One time I Like literally stayed awake for 5+ days while doing the most intense physical activities I could think of and the only thing happened was I felt like shit until I got such a bad headache and hillucinated sooo much I lost memory of what happened and I am only assuming to this day that I managed to get to sleeep finally.

A) Your mother effed it up for you with that doctor, so I wouldn't even bother trying.

B) There are TONS of other sleep medications. Benzos are generally only prescribed as a sleeping aid for people like me who go into panic mode at night thinking they didn't do something and are rushed with so many thoughts they can't sleep.

C) Some alternatives to benzos are: Lunesta. Ambien. Trazadone. Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril).

Although I would highly recommend staying away from Ambien. I thought I was just weird with all of the "incidents" I had on Ambien until the Tiger Woods story came out - turns out I was NOT the only one! In the beginning, it used to work. But a few months later and starting a higher dosage, I would be told in the morning by roommates that I was sleep walking and mumbling incoherently. Then I would find my car in the morning parked in a different spot and having a pack of cigarettes around of a brand I didn't smoke, et cetera.

You actually hadn't mentioned this until now. Either way it seems we aren't going to be able to say anything to help you.

Talk to your doctor and see if he can get you a anti-depressant/anti-anxiety med or benzos or z-drug or other. If they aren't willing to work with you because you experimented with weed when you were younger and then started using it to self medicate, then start looking for a new doctor who will actually help.

edit: if you want your own benzo action you can try Valerian Root.

I use Quetiapine (Seroquel) for sleep some of the time, it helps out alot. But I'm sure that any of these types of drugs would work i.e. Lunesta, ambien..ect. I don't think benzo's would be a wise choice, too much addiction potential.

^ this.

OP - I have to say that I don't really understand the aggression. It doesn't benefit me to sit down and respond to your posts; maybe you should stipulate directly that you only want responses from people who consider that taking benzos for sleep is a great idea?

Go to a doctor without your mom.

I am not exactly sure how to like just "get a new Dr." but I am sooo desperate here it is ridiculous I am actually considering getting drunk to just sleep but do not know how well that would work out. Oh and I said before the Weed is helping.... I know what is making me axnious the horrible terrible hellish environment I have been born into and lived in my whole life and continue to rot in and all of the money complications and what not I had and now have got a whole lot worse which in return makes my insomnia a lot worse. I know it sounds kind of lame but that is the simple way to put it.

In Ontario we have something called HealthCareConnect. You can't have a current GP though. I'll pull up the website.
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/ms/healthcareconnect/public/default.aspx

There's a shortage but depending on your location you may be okay. Pretty sure they triage you as well so if you mention all your symptoms you should have priority over the people getting a good nights sleep.

Alternatively you could ask your current doc to refer you to a sleep specialist (if that exists) or psychiatrist (or find a psychiatrist yourself though might be hard to get covered under OHIP). They might be better trained in dealing with anxiety, sleep problems, youth issues, drug use, etc.

Benzos although are good for putting you to sleep, ...are mainly for anxiety/panic disorder. Just tell the doctor how bad the sleeping problem is, they cant NOT prescribe you something. I would suggest trying to get a script of Trazedone...kicks in really fast and keeps you asleep.
