I think I am going through benzo withdrawals at the moment. I am getting really bad muscle spasms and anxiety, but am afraid to take an ativan or klonopin as I dosed opiates about 4 hours ago.

I took 25mg hydrocodone at 10:45 P.M., and then about 10mg oxycodone at 11:30 P.M. It is now 2:15 A.M. and I really want to take a small dose of a benzo as I had a few rough days and it has now been about 2-3 days since I have had one. My usual dose was 2mg of Klonopin daily, although only for a month or two. I realize this was a dumb idea to stop cold turkey, but I just want a little help.

When do you think it is safe to take a small benzo dose (0.5mg-1mg of ativan, or 0.5mg klonopin) since it has only been about 4 hours since I last took opiates? I am having pretty bad anxiety and am just trying to stay awake as it feels like I really need to take something before sleep...

Thank you for the speedy reply :) I will take some klonopin.

I had bad migraines that resulted in 2 hospital stays, and just can't even remember my last benzo dose as I was using opiates the day before and try not to combine. I think it was a combination of not being able to remember, anxiety, and withdrawal. I am going to take a small dose and hope that it clears my anxiety. Thanks again!

It's good that you are using caution while combining opiates and benzos, but that smallish amount of both, and the time lapse, should make for a safe combination.

Your headaches may have been related to the benzo withdrawal. I get bad headaches, and its like I can feel my brain tightening when I go too long without benzos. But I love the tingly feeling in my brain once I take them. I'm guessing that it has to do with muscles around your head being out of sync due to stopping benzos.

Thanks everyone for the help, I am tapering successfully now. I am at 1mg daily, and will be going down to .5mg daily this weekend. I had no idea these were so physically addicting, as the only other time I was prescribed them I was tapered by a doctor and didn't think much of it. Would ativan help at all in the taper progress?

I think the migraines may have something to do with benzo withdrawal, but I have no idea in reality. I am quitting the benzo's for a while, and starting physical therapy to help release tension in my neck and back which seem to be where they are stemming from. It has been almost a week since my first migraine, and I have had a headache since with terrible muscle aches. I guess it could have something to do with also withdrawing from a bit of an oxycodone/other opiate habit, but it is beginning to be completely cleansed as I haven't used any opiates since this post (3-4 days ago...)

Just wanted to thank everyone though, and say that it really saved my ass. I had no idea benzo withdrawals were so serious.

Well generally with tapering, you want to stick to the benzo with the longer half-life, and if you have really bad anxiety one day, you may use another benzo with a shorter half-life. The chart that I looked at had the klonopin with a longer half life than ativan, so I would only use the klonpin to taper off. If you really are having alot of anxiety, than take a little ativan, although it is best to take as small amount of benzos as possible.

Also, you can drink white graperfruit juice so that the klonopin doesn't leave your system as fast, which may allow you to taper easier. Also, anti-histamines may help with tapering.

Anti-histamines really sucked for me. Really bad. Bzdwd causes restless legs and thrashing in your sleep and antihistamines are bad for this problem. Sometimes ah's can be stimulating instead of sedating for some people. First time I took hydroxyzine was not bad and it knocked me out. Second time it was what meth must be like. I've still got rls from hell since then. Lyrica is possibly better, but really to a slow taper so you don't shock your body. Combing with opiates can be weird and make your chest feel really heavy so don't do op's if you can help it and taper off gently. Lots of good info on the web, wish I knew before I took a trip to bzd hell...

taper off the benzos. TAPER, it is very possible to die from a benzo withdrawl. i dont know ur dosing, or tolerance, but i would taper anyway. every time i w/d off bars, no matter how many i have been taken, i would always taper off benzos. ive heard some fd up storys. your brain actually feels it neeeds it so when it aint got it, shit starts shuttin down.

Word bro, i got mad headaches when this douche doc (not my usual doc) cut my valium from 50mg to 25mg/day... and various other nasty side effects.... i went back up to 30 after, now i'm at 10mg/day diazepam
