backpacking + acid

I'm planning a solo backpacking trip up in the mountains and was wondering if anyone had any experience trying psychedelics solo backpacking or remote camping? what is it like? I'm really interested in other people's experiences.

I would like to try about 3 doses, I've done 2 doses at a time and done lsd a total of about 8 times. Some advice would be very much appreciated in helping me prepare for this much anticipated excursion.

I plan on bringing a notebook and camera to capture my visions and ideas and thoughts. I want to make a report of it after returning.

I am an average experienced backpacker. I go backpacking in the spring - fall months. I'm trying to get out away from everything for about 3 days. I am also planning on bringing some herb with me out to smoke.

Thanks.

Well there isn't a lot that can prepare you besides just being experienced. Know how you react on LSD, it might not be a bad idea to do some practice runs in a safer environment, like your home, by yourself first. Make sure that someone knows you are gone and that you plan on doing acid, maybe even have them call you every once in while to check up(assuming you have cell phone coverage, which could be difficult in the mountains).

^ agreed with the practice run comment,

if you think your comfortable doing it, thats the main thing, out in nature is definately the best place to drop in my opinion...

Hello

Highly experienced backpacker here and moderate experienced psychonaut.

You are going to have to figure out how much walking you actually want to do before doing this. I have set a destination before, ate a ton of shrooms and wasted the trip because I had to walk to my destination before the day was over....get my drift?

If I were to do it again, I would walk to my destination, set up camp, and then dose.....or wait until the next day after I have reached a destination and just not do any major walking that day, because it's not fun thinking about having to be somewhere to set up tent while you are tripping......trust me. If you have camp set up, your trip will be MUCH MUCH MUCH more fun.

Have a blast. Be safe. Don't forgot lots of water.
=D

thats a terrible idea. so many things that can go wrong: can you imagine a bad trip out there? or if the weather got bad? people get lost easily when theyre sober backpacking.

Having done exactly this, I don't think it's a bad idea at all.

That being said, you need to obey a few rules. The biggest one is simple - only trip if you have an open day. And by open day, I mean a day with no tasks to do whatsoever, nothing linear at all - no collecting wood, no walking to a specific location, no putting up a tent.

Best approach I've found is to hike into a nice location, set up camp, have a good dinner, and sleep. Wake up, set up your camp so you have 24 hours of water available, basic snacks around, tinder stored, and shelter prepared. Know exactly where your first aid kit is, and have weather-appropriate clothing already taken out of your bag (ie raincoat/sweater in a specific spot in your tent).

Then drop at noonish, and you'll be able to sleep at a reasonable hour so your sleep schedule isn't fucked for the rest of the time.

Really you just need an open day. Any task of any kind will seem irrelevant when you're high. Bringing a box of wine is good because it stores easily and can help take a bit of the edge off at night or if things get weird - light benzos work well for this too.

that sounds pretty cool. personally i wouldn't want a backpack on while tripping, and i'd rather just go to a state park for a few hours while tripping rather than doing a whole camping trip. also, you might get confused and lost possibly.

I have done this.

Go to your location, sleep and wake up the next day and spend the whole day tripping. Don't travel while your trip.

Just be sure to get your campsite COMPLETELY set up before you trip.
Trying to light a fire or scrambling to find dry wood because your fire is about to go out sucks ass when tripping, trust me =D

this is pretty much the only way i trip anymore. im pretty experience with both backpacking and psychs and I love it. just make sure your cool to trip alone, some people arnt. but if you are, just be safe (obviously) and have a great time. im about to do the same thing tonight (though just driving up into the mountains and setting up camp) with mescaline :) have a great time!

Thanks all for this great advice. Gonna do this for sure now. I'm planning my backpacking trip at this time for sometime in early October. I plan on being out for about 3 nights, solo with only my things in my backpack. I'll take along a small a-frame tent.

I feel confident about this experience. I plan on bringing a notebook to write my thoughts down and I plan on being cut off from civilization for at least 3 or 4 days. I am taking my camera for some photography as well. Writing a report about it when I get back is my idea, but i'll see how i accustom back to this college lifestyle after being detatched from all humanity and then being detatched from my own self, while in the middle of the sticks. I'm excited about this. I'm not worried because i have taken mushies and dosed acid a few times already alone, (at separate times of course)

I understand the importance of water. I got a Katadyn Water Filter yesterday, which is one of the best water filters.

I'm going to plan this out well and have essential items like first aid kit, high energy food, and especially some good bud. I think that being that far away from society will make tripping much better because there won't be any paranoia associated with it. I have put away my tent before when trippin on acid and i have to say its really difficult.

I like what you say linearttransform. Definitely will be getting to my destination and sleep get some good rest the first night, dose the next morning (my trips last awhile from start - peak - tapering down) and have all things in order before i drop.

If i wanted this to be a ++++ trip would it take 4 or 5 doses? Can you get out of body experiences? That would be pretty interesting. I do understand it depends on your body and how it reacts, but in general for an average human is what i'm delineating here.

Don't sprain your ankle. For fuck's sake.

Get to where you need to be then take a day pack for the trip. I would feel like shit and probably wear out and lack the focus and drive needed for a long mileage. I'd be interested to hear what it is like though. I mean I've walked miles on acid, but backpacking is so much more intense and I know the straps and the sweat on my shirt and the little dimples in places would drive me bonkers.

Peace,
PL

Iodine tablets+Iodine taste neutralizer pills are a lot smaller and lighter than any water filter (which compliments the mentality of backpacking) but everyone has their own tastes.

BUT, it does sound like you have done your basic research for surviving and having a fun backpacking and a trip.

Good luck and have fun my friend!

The amount of acid is not relevant if you put your mind to it.

Consider that research has shown psychedelics taken in "majestic" natural environments require less compound for comparable effects, and that an out of body experience / ego loss would significantly increase your risk of personal injury (which is very, very, very bad when you're alone) - I would not go for "heroic" doses, rather one you're familiar with already.

as long as you take the acid knowing very well what could potentially go wrong, ie weather, animals, getting hurt, and you are confident in yourself to deal with such dilemmas in a tripping state, then go for it. I think adding that bit of risk to a trip really really heightens the psychedelicness of it, it makes it deeper. I'm a novice hiker and seasoned tripper. Well, I have tree planted for three seasons, that's fucking hardcore as fuck.

Two of my most uncomfortable psychedelic experiences were being in the wilderness, away from a trail and camp, with a deep primal feeling of confusion and hopelessness. This might be an idiosyncratic reaction based on my own fears of being lost in the wild, but psychedelics certainly tend to make the panic more pronounced--when I was just 100 yards from camp or 1/3 mile from my car, I had no grounding and was totally disoriented.

That said, sticking to the trail (obviously), and, as an above poster suggested, administering the dose once you have camp set up and are free from those anxieties seems like the best course of actions to take. Needless to say, you personally simply may not have these reactions. Just be conservative.

I must hitherto go and traverse the trail into wild majestic places to experience such an enlightened experience.

Yes i definitely am going to make the setting right. I feel i am going to get something from this experience. everytime I have dosed i've come to a realization about life, and how i need to slow down and think more, understand more, and be more at peace. I've decided to do this because its the only way I can entirely separate myself from human interaction. I have dosed at a music festival that is on farmland with woods around or a quarry and camped but there always have been lots of people to talk to. I almost like that as much as I would like to do it alone. Last time I dosed at a music festival I was talking to this girl that had a booth for hours, giving her beer and literally tried talking myself through. I literally felt like i was melting, my face was dripping. Of course I had done other drugs including Ketamine that day, molly, ecstacy, weed, salvia divinorum. I was high all weekend. But i saved dosing for that night when my favorite bands were playing - Lotus
