Aussies, I need your help! I am trying to look online but my searching skills seem to be lacking. I need to know if any/how many Australian Prime Ministers have been assassinated.

(This is for a stats assignment. You won't be doing my homework for me, I am just trying to speculate on reasons that the mean age at death of Australian Prime Ministers is lower than that of Canadian PMs.)

If you help me, I will buy you a beer next time I see you.

Assasinated? Zero, zilch, nada, zip.

The closest we came was when one PM, by the name of Harold Holt disappeared while swimming in heavy seas off Portsea in Victoria on 17 December 1967. His body was never recovered. Ironically, a swimming pool in Victoria was later named after him... Hope this helps :)

I expect payment of said beer next time I am in BC... I also hear your weed is rather good ;)

totally useless piece of information for the day....

if you believe the lady at the antique shop (who told me this story after i paid), apparently i own the top half of harold holt's sister's wedding dress....

okay, now you can all go back to doing whatever you were doing....
bk:)

i sure john howard must have hadto have an attempt against him... i mean look at his face!!!!
just wait til the duck hunting season.

without wanting to be pedantic... bah! who am i kidding. thoth was the egyptian god of wisdom and learning and i think he also invented language. however plato, in the republic, refers to thoth as the god of false knowledge, which makes matters a tad confusing. Dam those greeks.

And how do you know for sure none have been assassinated??? Seen Dave?

if you believe my father it was the CIA or some other evil government faction that killed him.:p i dont

We don't assassinate tthem here, we just lose them.

Australia - the only country to ever lose its leader

But it was the Japs in one of their midget subs, don't you know8(

I have swum at the very beach where Holty did his 'not here anymore' thang!

And...a Soviet sub was in the area at he time;)

How many were ousted in a coup that possibly was the work of the CIA? One. A prize to anyone who knows what I'm talking about...
A champion at home, let there be no doubt, but let's not forget that Gough could be considered the creator of our "let's screw over S.E. Asia for all she's worth" policy.
In short, every PM we have ever had has been a fucktard. Gough was just less of a fucktard than many others.

Sure but that's not the point. Regardless of how 'tarded a government is, it is up to the people of that country to decide when they go, not the US State Department and CIA.

Interesting you've made the comment Johnboy - I've just finished reading A Secret Countr (again), and while it's clear Pilger has an unbelievably scewed bias to his reporting, it's hard to deny the sheer weight of evidence which points to Whitlam being arsed as a result of CIA fiddling in our affairs.

Now, of course, with Australia's status as an unnoficial satellite state of the US, they CIA no longer has to get it's hands dirty. Our own MP's will make sure the US's interests are placed before our own*...

Yes, this is a rash and general statement, and if any of you want to get hoity-toity over it, go ahead and waste your time. But it's about time Australia stood up for it's own morals and values, rather than putting the US's 'world doctrine' on the table instead of our own. We can still dream...
