AU: Ecstasy users warned of drug switch

I've got nothing substantial to back this, I just have a feeling that 4-methylmethcathinone might just be a candidate for causing something unpleasant (well actually pulmonary hypertension due to agonism at the 5HT2b receotor) as I think I've read something a while ago about 4-methylamphetamine being implicated as a cause (along with fenfluramine and a couple of other compounds previously used clinically) of said condition.

As I said, that's just somehing I'm looking into at the moment, but you know when you have a gut feeling/hunch that something just looks dodgy...

a lot of people knowingly pay good money for those sort of effects =D

tbh anyone who cuts drugs/sells drugs as something they are not should be forced to eat their whole stash in one go, its just not cricket.

The police will also tell you MDMA will cause these adverse affects, if you look at the back of a pharmaceutical drug it will list the adverse effects which may happen to a select few, the only difference here is the police are pushing that more than likely the listed effects will occur if mephedrone is ingested, I dont see why this is news when we've been told all of these adverse reactions listed can occur with ecstacy by law enforcement time and time again.

Fast: Actually you are quite right . In Israel Cathinone was legal up until about 3 years ago. Once it started to spread as far as popularity to the extent that it was being sold in newspaper shoppes various people started exploring a whole range of related substances. 4-M-Cat was one of these, sold in yellow capsules. People began having adverse reactions and within 6 months the lot of them were made illegal in a special act of K'nesset (our legislature). One bad apple spoils the bunch.

I highly doubt that mephedrone has any significant 5HT2B activity, methamp, mdma, mda, lsd, all carry a higher affinity.

How many cases of MDMA related pulmonary hypertension do you hear about?

Resevratrol is able to reverse the condition to some degree.

This issue didn't come up with fenfluramine until about a year after it was being consumed 24/7.

i'm from cairns, and they were fucked up capsules. i had a few of them and everytime i started to over heat really quickly and almost spewing up from them i couldnt stop sweating, just felt like shit, would never touch them again. the cops here didnt arrest anyone who handed them in for posseion. they just wanted them off the street

How do they know that these capsules were marketed as exctasy? It doesn't mention anyone confirming that people even had a chance to take these, or that anyone has come foward to say they were under the impression they were taking mdma when they took the cat pills. Typical jump the gun approach to law enforcment and the propaganda machine.

It's like sayin "so and so was raided and they found 50000 capsules of mescaline, it's not MDMA despite dealers 'ALLEGEDLY' marketing them as such."

ALLEGEDLY, they say. ALLEGEDLY. Allegedly ALL cops eat doughnuts EVERY day...

Actually its a known fact that all cops the world over do in-fact eat donuts every single day!
