To cut a long story short I was diagnosed with adult adhd earlier in the year but have decided to go unmedicated because I don't trust myself not to abuse the meds.

However, I just heard about atomoxetine which has apparently recently been indicated for adult adhd in my country. I know almost nothing about this drug other than some reading I have subsequently done on the web, I was hoping there might be some people here who are users that could give me some anecdotal reports as well.

Can anyone help?!

That's forward thinking!

I've never taken it (probably one of 3-5 drugs for depression that I've never taken) but it's supposed to be very effective. Isn't it a melatonergic agonist?

You mean with regards to refusing the adhd meds? Well, if I'm honest I know I'd have them in a spoon cooking up straight away so it's best to steer clear for the moment at the very least.

Atomoxetine is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, apparently it's actually similar to an SNRI in action. There seems to be a very long list of side effects though, bit of a dirty med by all accounts. I know I can't be trusted with methylphenidate or amphetamine at the moment though.

It's useful for those whom can't take stimulants. But in terms of recreation, it's bad. I guess we're just committed to mental health over here%)

The less recreational/abuse potential it has the better. I'm just interested in medicinal use and side-effects etc.

Well medicinally speaking, it's fairly effective as a remedy for ADHD. Now stimulants are super effective. Maybe try Strattera and add Intuniv or Wellbutrin if it's not enough.
