Would like to hear stories of any athletic or fitness success anyone has had despite being drug addicted or dependent.

Please specify what drug they were on.

We know recreational drugs typically are deleterious as far as getting in shape, getting strong, or performing athletics.

Stories of pro athletes that were heavy drug users while active are also of interest. Or body builders.

Hard drugs, heavy smokers (in the case of endurance athletics) and alcohol annd even weed are of interest I don’t care about psychedelics.

I know skateboarding had a lot of drug and alcohol use but it’s one of those sports where you aren’t really pushed by a team or coach thouh. Also athletes in skating careers end very young so the drugs really haven’t done too much damage yet.

Stories of older athletes into the 30s and 40s would be even more interesting to hear about

It can be depressing to be stuck on drugs but I hope to gain inspiration that we don’t need to give up completely on our bodies despite destroying them with drugs.

Also the similarly between an endorphin dump (runners high) and a kratom like high feel so similar. Gotta be ppl that excercise hard just for the getting high aspect of it.

I don't anyone personally.

But I have heard lots of successful bodybuilders having drug issues with things like cocaine, opioids, ghb, nubaine etc

There is an AFL footballer who used to hammer coke and ecstasy on weekends after games. Ended up with a massive meth addiction.
Incredible athlete. Ben Cousins. One of the most fittest athletes on the planet. Could just run and run.

Weight lifters seem to do lots of drugs and get into opioids from the damage they do to their bodies I’ve noticed.

But I don’t know if I’d call them proper athletes they likely can’t maintain a near sprint speed on land or water for 2 minutes

Lol. That's a winning attitude.

Lance Armstrong. Barry Bonds. Sylvester Stallone. '86 Mets. All those soldiers in U.S. military history ramped up on amphetamines (don't tell me they're not athletes, either).

The link you provided is more for ppl using as a PED on day of performance. I’m more interested in addicts (someone always on the drug).

Justin Gatlin was a great known amphetamine user and Usain Bolt’s main competition outside of Jamaica.

I didn’t know lance armstrong was an amphetamine addict? Did he do meth ever or was just popping adderall? I would think amphetamine isn’t good for endurance sports and lance Armstrong is the only endurance amphetamine user we’ve named, but like using it on a race vs. being on it every day of your life are different…was lance permanently on adderall or something ?

Anyways I don’t much personally care about stimulants because I don’t use them. But it’s fun to hear the stories.

I guess I’m more interested in opioids and smokers (of anything).

There’s gotta be a lot of famous professionals that balanced party drugs and lucrative pro sports.🏀 ⚽🏈 baseball. But party drugs aren’t really true full blown addictions imo because they just do them on the weekend or whatever not every day

I've always had surprised or almost doubtful reactions when I tell people the amount of alcohol I used to drink, and that I would wake up hungover and jog 3-5 miles, first thing in the morning after getting out of bed. During active alcoholism I would still run 10+ miles per week.

It obviously handicaps my performance and fitness goals, and it's painful (crazy inflammation), but it is one hell of a hangover cure and seems to stave off withdrawal for an hour or two.

In fact I have a natural impulse to run if I ever get too high on any given drug.

Daryl Strawberry was a member of the '86 mets. He had issues with cocaine and alcohol. I mentioned the team more because of a number of players who were using speed. Don't worry, I'm just getting started.

"Tennis star Andre Agassi, who failed an amphetamine drug test in 1997 and claimed his drug usage was the result of drinking a spiked soda, later revealed that he had done crystal meth frequently during his career."

I feel like most professional sports ballers could not maintain a full blown addiction due to Doping tests ? I guess they get an exception for opioid in the nfl though right ?

That’s sounds painful to run hungover. Never tried .

But I had to run or at least walk for hours during opiate withdrawal sometimes if I’m able because it feels even worse sitting still

When I was in my 20s, I could go to the gym drunk or hung over and still have a decent workout, but I lost that ability by the age of 30.

It is, but the way I look at it is that you're going to be in pain anyways by just laying in bed with the hangover, and the payoff is worth it. After I take a shower and lay back down, I feel a hell of a lot better. Not only from the endorphins, but I feel like it speeds up your metabolism and actually shortens the length of the hangover that way as well.

I'm in my mid 30s and still do it. However, I am more cautious now, because running while hungover can definitely increase chances of injury. I've noticed that getting worse, more cramps, more joint pain, etc after running. Likely due to the inflammation alcohol causes compounded with the natural inflammation of running.

I’ve always managed to stay fit despite opioid habit. So running 5 miles, boxing, yoga, plus breathe work, 5 days a week. This is on fent, Heroin and lesser opioids like the ones I do now.

I do also have some sort of genetic vulnerability where family members on one side tend to get depressed if they aren’t physically active, hard exercise cures depression in us. Antidepressants also seem to be ineffective and I believe they are ineffective in general, SSRIs are scam drugs and exercise can do greater especially if there is a social aspect to the work outs.

I wouldn't say I was addicted (often forgot about it and dropped usage for weeks-to-months at a time without any WD) but I used GHB often nightly for anywhere from 1-3 weeks at a time when I was a powerlifter in college, due to it being an HGH secretagogue. There was an intense and noticeable increase in my strength, and the skeletal shifts were odd too. I gained ~3/4 of an inch in height at age 20, despite having hit puberty at 8. I also noticed my shoulders widen, my cheekbones widen, and the height gain was 100% in my torso, not my legs at all.
