aspartame for dopamine?

Let's just agree it's inconclusive that it's safe, search on the methanol concentrations increasing when aspartame containing softdrinks are stored in room temperature for too long. How long is too long, I don't remember ( ;) ). It's on pubmed and elsewhere which isn't woo-woo sites too.

It's not inconclusive that it's safe, like I said before, it is impossible for there to be more than a few milligrams of aspartame generated.

Go scaremonger somewhere else.

Aspartame is probably one of the safest artificial sweeteners out there. Seekio is right, it isn't inconclusive.

Artificial Sweetener Review with sekio!

Saccharin - derived from toluene, one of the first artificial sweeteners, causes tumors in rats but not humans. FDA GRAS. Some people avoid it because of the whole association with coal tar (derived from toluene or anthralinic acid).
Acesulfame-K - related to saccharin, tumors and metabolic disturbances in rats but not humans, FDA GRAS.
Aspartame - Aspartic acid-phenylalanine methyl ether. Basically nontoxic. Decomposes to phenylalanine and methanol*. FDA GRAS.
Neotame - Related to aspartame, does not hydrolyse to its component amino acids.
Cyclamate - Bladder cancer in rats, still used in Canada but not the US.
Stevia (steviosides) - Diterpene glycoside sweeteners. Not sure what their approval status is, but they have been approved in Japan for some time now.
Sucralose - FDA GRAS.
Sorbitol, xylitol, hydrogenated starch hydrolysate etc. - "Cooling" effects, tooth protective, but can cause gastric upset due to excessive metabolism by gut flora.

** A diatribe on Methanol in soda.
Let's say a soda contains 180mg of aspartame. Aspartame breaks down to about 11% methanol when absorbed, which means that's about 20mg of methanol per soda. The daily "tolerable limit" is something like 2000 mg[ref], with toxicity starting at about 8000 mg, so you would need to consume 100 cans of soda to even make it to 2 grams. At which point I think the fluid you'd be consuming would help flush it from your body.

I don't have anything to add to the discussion, but thanks for the review. It's appreciated :)
