I'm starting this thread to ask for some preparation advice for this interview I have in just over week, it is an IT apprenticeship. The job description sounded pretty basic such as the following -

*Must know how to use Windows
*The ability to troubleshoot
*Peripheral repair (such as printers/scanners)

^And other duties similar to this. This should be pretty easy for me as I have studied IT for around 3 years. I ask for preparation because I haven't been too focused on IT recently and more onto other subjects that take my attention.

I would really love this job as I am getting sick of sitting on my ass and having no god damn money! I know it is friggin' hard to get a job nowadays so some help would be much appreciated.

Andy.

It's been a long time since I had an interview for a real job but here are a couple of tips.

Prepare for them to ask you questions that have nothing to do with what you listed in the OP. For example, "Why do you want to work here?"; "Why did you leave your last job?"; "What are three things you are good at?" ; "What are three things you are NOT good at?"

I used to ask myself questions like that the night before an interview and I would write down the answers just like I was studying for class. One other one that always stumped me was, "Tell me about yourself." Fuck, I don't know - I drink beer every night and jerk off every day. But employers really ask shit like that.

I would also study their website very thoroughly, they notice when you know a little bit about their company.

Also, tell them what they want to hear. One time I was interviewing for a sales job and they asked me about my last sales job, "How would you rate yourself compared to the other salesmen?" I told them the truth - average. Needless to say, I did not get that job. I should have told them I was the best.
